In the aftermath of helping the Lakers secure their 17th NBA Championship, Lakers guard Rajon Rondo spoke highly of his teammate LeBron James, saying he knew from the beginning that they were destined for greatness.

Rajon Rondo:

“I told myself that if I was to able to get a guy like LeBron, there is no way there’s gonna be a team that beat us four times before we beat them four times.” @thesportsontap https://t.co/YpTH28RnCZ

Rondo’s tenure in L.A. hasn’t always been the best. Last season, the team failed to make the playoffs, largely due to injuries to the roster. Rondo made it through a summer of uncertainty only to find the Lakers community doubting his worth at every turn.

But Rondo proved himself yet again when it mattered most, and the team was often at its best when both he and LeBron were on the floor.

“To be able to come back and redeem myself and play a big part in this championship is definitely a hell of a feeling and something I’ll remember for the rest of my life. I’ve been trying to get back for so long.” Rondo said on Sunday night.

Not only was he a leader on the floor, but he provided a major impact in the locker-room as well — and a steady presence that helped keep level heads for his guys throughout the season.

Sadly, Rondo is due to become an NBA free-agent this offseason, so there’s no telling where he’ll end up.

But if the Lakers are smart, they’ll try their best to bring him back and keep that chemistry with LeBron alive.
