Amid the COVID-19 pandemic and a presidential campaign that has been extraordinarily controversial, LeBron James (among many others) has been a huge advocate for voter’s right this year.
So when his image got used in a voter disinformation campaign, James made sure to set the record straight.
Here’s the story, per the Washington Post.
“Some of the paid posts feature an image of LeBron James and misconstrue a quote from the basketball star, falsely suggesting that when he condemned polling closures as “systemic racism and oppression,” he was linking those closures to the expansion of opportunities to vote by mail. He was not.”
An old tweet from James called polling closures in Kentucky a sign of “SYSTEMATIC RACISM and OPPRESSION.” The Facebook post used it as fuel to tell others that he was linking the closures to the expansion of mail-in voting.
Here’s James’ response on Twitter.
First of all, Everyone needs to know the kind of BS happening about this election and get organized. This is exactly why we coming together for @morethanavote misinformation=suppression!https://t.co/4I5qGux4I7

Secondly, Nobody should be able to use my name (or anyone else name) to lie and deceive about the election. Not sure what we can do legally but definitely trying to figure it out! #StayWoke #LoveMyPeople✊🏾

You can expect James to pursue legal action here, considering this campaign goes against everything he believes in.
As for the issue of voter suppression, that’s something everybody will have their take on it, but most can agree that it’s a serious problem — either way, you should have no doubt on how Bron feels about it.
