Rick Carlisle Says Luka Doncic Is In The ‘Same Mold’ Of Larry Bird, Jason Kidd

Luka Doncic keeps delighting everybody across the NBA and he doesn’t seem to be stopping anytime soon. The Slovenian point guard keeps demonstrating he’s one of the best players in the league after putting up a show on Saturday night against the reigning NBA MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo and his Milwaukee Bucks.

Doncic went off on the Bucks, recording yet another triple-double in the season, dropping 36 points, grabbing 14 rebounds and dishing a career-high 19 assists in the Mavs 136-132 victory. The 21-year-old keeps drawing a lot of attention from everybody around the league and after the game, his head coach compared him with two of the greatest players in their respective positions.

“He knows where everybody is. Not only on offense, but defense,” Carlisle said, talking about Luka’s vision on the court. “That’s the sign of a savant type guy. I played with Larry Bird, he could see everything like that. I had the privilege of coaching Jason Kidd and he could see everything like that.”

“Luka’s in that same mold,” Carlisle continued. “He’s got a different body type, he’s got a different kind of game. But, when he draws the attention, somebody’s going to get a wide-open shot. There were a lot of instances tonight where we had shots that didn’t quite go in. Otherwise, these numbers could have been even more ridiculous,” he said, via Essentially Sports.

That’s how good Luka has been in his first two seasons in the league. He has the potential to be the face of the league and his performances against great things only confirm that. The Mavericks are a competitive team but not a lot of people see them as a serious contender this year.

However, led by Luka and co., this team can make some noise in the postseason.

If the young player keeps this level, be ready because the Mavs can complicate more than one team.
