In 2009 Dwyane Wade Said That He Could Team Up With LeBron James In New York

LeBron James and Dwyane Wade have a bond that goes way beyond the basketball court. For as close as they are now, however, it was basketball that helped further their friendship when they became teammates in 2010. They played for the Heat together for four years, winning two championships and making history as one of the best pairings in league history.

But, according to an old Tweetby Wade in 2009, they might have had different plans before eventually settling on Miami. When asked by a fan for a destination on where he and LeBron might team up, he listed the Knicks, not the Heat.

RT @BusinessBizz @dwadeofficial what are the chances of you and Lebron playing on the same team ? preferably in THE GARDEN !wait and c lol

Had the Knicks acquired Bron and Wade in 2010, it would have completely changed the tide of the franchise. They’d likely have at least one title victory and their reputation for loss and dysfunction would have been replaced with glamor and success.

Needless to say, that’s no how things worked out. The Knicks were unable to lure in LeBron (who apparently met with the team during his free agency) and they have been unable to achieve much success since.

To know how close the Knicks were to getting two of the greatest players ever is not only surprising but also a bit disheartening. They’ve had opportunities to turn things around and it has been their own mistakes that has led to failure.

One has to think some good will come their way eventually…
