The day most gamers and NBA fans were waiting for is finally here. At last, we know one of the three cover athletes that’ll be featured in this year’s NBA 2K21, according to a report from The Athletic’s Shams Charania:

“NBA 2K21 cover athlete: Portland Trail Blazers star Damian Lillard, @TheAthleticNBA @Stadium has learned,” Charania tweeted.

So, after years of flying under the radar, it seems like finally, Damian Lillard is getting the respect he deserves. He went from being an All-Star snub to one of the leading scorers and biggest fan favorites in the NBA and it’s pretty clear why.

At the top of being an outspoken leader and a standout rapper, Lillard continues to take his game to a whole new level on a yearly basis. In fact, he’s the only reason why the Portland Trail Blazers still have a slight shot at making the playoffs this season.

Lillard was having a career year before the hiatus of the season, averaging 28.9 points, 7.8 assists, and 3.9 three-pointers on 45.7% shooting, all career bests. He was also grabbing 4.3 rebounds and snatching 1.0 steals per game.

The Blazers, however, still have plenty of work to do if they want to beat the odds and make the postseason, as they’re currently sitting at the 9th spot of the Western Conference and trail the Memphis Grizzlies by 3.5 points.

They’ll have to go vs. the San Antonio Spurs, Sacramento Kings, Phoenix Suns, Memphis Grizzlies, and New Orleans Pelicans to clinch that highly-coveted final playoff berth, just to face the Los Angeles Lakers in the first round if the pull it off.

As for NBA 2K, rumors claim that Zion Williamson and Kobe Bryant could be the other two cover athletes featured in this year’s edition but we’ll have to wait and see.
