The Statue Every Fan Wants To See In Front Of Staples Center

It’s been almost a month since the deaths of Kobe and Gianna Bryant. And though the world has had some time to come to grips with the tragedy, it’s still fresh on the minds of countless fans today, including Netflix’ HOOPS director, Jack Perkins.

In remembering the passings of Kobe and his daughter, he made an epic design featuring statues of the Bryants in front of Staples Center.

The statue is of Kobe and GiGi performing their signature “fadeaway” together as snakes wrap around their ankles to represent the “Black Mamba” persona portrayed by the two.

While the design is just a projection of Perkins’ imagination, it seems inevitable that the iconic Staples Center (home to the Lakers) will memorialize Kobe in this way. Statues are a common way for teams to immortalize legends, and perhaps nobody is more deserving of that honor than Kobe and GiGi.

The team has already retired both of Bryant’s numbers and the league honored Kobe and Gianna by having both teams wear their numbers (24 and 2) during the game.

But having some kind of statue seems more than appropriate to honor the legacies of two of L.A.’s most beloved souls.
