LeBron James has worn many hats over the course of his 16-year career. This particular season, he seems to be playing the role of a point guard for the Lakers, who currently own the NBA’s best record.
Averaging 10.7 assists and 25 points, he has the numbers of a guy who is playing at his natural position. No doubt, his court vision, basketball IQ, and sheer brilliance when it comes to the game of basketball are contributing to his success at the point position, despite the fact that he’s always been more of a forward.
In fact, on ESPN’s NBA Countdown, analyst Jay Williams boldly declared he was “leaning towards” calling James the best point guard in the history of the game.

Pierce and the other analysts at the desk argued that James is a point forward, not a guard. Of course, to Jay’s point, Bron has been playing the point all season for L.A. – and he has excelled, even if his size and scoring abilities may look different than a guy who naturally plays the position.
Whether or not that puts him ahead of Magic, though, is arguable. Magic was a pure point guard who looked for others before scoring himself. And while there are similarities between the two, it seems a little early to start giving Bron the title over a guy who dominated the position for 13 seasons.
