Joel Embiid is the face of the Philadelphia 76ers and also the self-proclaimed best player in the league.
In a comeback victory over the Nets on Thursday, Embiid made a rather bold proclamation about his status in the league.
“In the All-Star Game just proving that I belong, I’m here, just being the best player in the world,” said Embiid, according to Keith Pompey of The Philadelphia Inquirer. “I just intend to keep coming out every single night and just play hard and try to get wins, and go out and try to win a championship.”
As a career 24-point-per-game scorer, Embiid is certainly one of the best players the NBA has to offer. He can shoot from distance, play in the post, and protect the paint at a high level. This season, in particular, he’s averaging 23 points and 12 rebounds on 46% shooting.
Unfortunately, his team has not faired nearly as well. As a bottom-half playoff team, they are underperforming on what was supposed to be a Championship contending season.
There have been questions about Embiid’s durability, his potential as a star in the future, and his partnership with Ben Simmons. But in the midst of all the doubts, Joel has just been trying to be himself. He isn’t letting all the noise get to his head.
