LeBron James Recreates Iconic Dunk By Kobe Bryant

2 Min Read

LeBron James chose to carry on the legacy of the Lakers when he signed the dotted line to join them back in 2018. And while the jury is still out on his place in Lakers’ history, he is the one carrying the torch of the illustrious franchise.

During the Lakers’ 125-120 win over the Warriors on Saturday, he alluded back to a moment during his previous game where he made a rather unintended tribute to Kobe Bryant.

During a fast-break, James made a double-clutch reverse dunk off an outlet pass from Avery Bradley that seemed to be an almost exact replica of a dunk Kobe Bryant completed almost 20 years ago.

“Ever see the movie ‘The 6th Man’?” James asked after the Lakers’ 125-120 victory over the Warriors. “Kobe came down, put himself in my body and gave me that dunk on that break.”

“I didn’t really predetermine that either until I jumped,” James said. “I just jumped and kind of figured it out, and then … it’s crazy how it’s the same exact dunk, the same exact hoop that Kobe did [it on] — what, 19 years ago or something like that? That was nice.”

It’s almost supernatural the way that LeBron is able to replicate this moment. And while Bron did not really believe Kobe “took over” his body in this moment, he was obviously moved by it.

It’ll be interesting to see if Bron can win this season — for Kobe.
