Expectations and responsibilities are something quite different, same as hope and duty. For instance, most NBA fans enter the season with high hopes and expectations, but, at the end of the day, their team is built for another kind of success.
We all need to be patient and try to look at things in perspective, asking ourselves, what is our team’s true ceiling and floor for the season before jumping to conclusions and get over our head for one thing or another.
This year, the Eastern Conference features three teams that enter the year with a lot of expectations and the responsibility of taking the Conference by the horns now that LeBron James has finally left.
Obviously, that means only one of them can succeed and the other two will fall short, but, what is their true floor and ceiling? Let’s discuss it.
Philadelphia 76ers

Floor: Eastern Conference Finals
The Philadelphia 76ers need to build from last season’s outstanding run, and now that they’re more experienced than they were back then, we fully expect them to make it to the Eastern Conference Finals unless they’re forced to face the Boston Celtics earlier in the playoffs, as they’ve proved to be their nemesis.
Ceiling: Lose In 6 Games In The Finals
While the Philadelphia 76ers don’t have enough firepower and defense to beat the Golden State Warriors or Houston Rockets, they could at least still one game or two out of them, and that would be as good as it gets for them this season.
Toronto Raptors

Floor: NBA Finals
By jeopardizing their entire future in order to get a one year rental in Kawhi Leonard, is the win-now mode for the Toronto Raptors, and nothing but a trip to the NBA Finals could be considered as a success for this team.
Ceiling: Lose In 7 Games In The Finals
Anyways, they don’t have what it takes (especially mentally) to win a Championship right away, but with the two-way player in the world in their team, they could definitely make the Champion work hard for the ring.

Boston Celtics

Floor: NBA Finals
Anything but a trip to the NBA finals would be a massive disappointment for the Boston Celtics and their fan base, considering they’re the most stacked team not named Golden State Warriors in the NBA right now.
Ceiling: Win The NBA Championship
The Boston Celtics are, to my eyes, the only team capable of defying and dethroning the Golden State Warriors, featuring a balanced offense with a suffocating pesky defense, combined with a lot of depth and some of the promising young ballers in the world. It won’t be easy, but they have all it takes to pull it off.
