5 Most Overhyped NBA Teams This Season

NBA fans always tend to believe their teams are way better than they are, and that they’re bound for Championship contention when they’re not. Regardless of facts, fans always hype their squads.

  • 5. Detroit Pistons
  • 4. Portland Trail Blazers
  • 3. Milwaukee Bucks
  • 2. Washington Wizards
  • 1. Minnesota Timberwolves

Young teams also get so overrated because of their high ceiling and their potential, a potential that’s almost never likely to be achieved because of the fact that patience runs out and they wind up trading their prospects to start back from scratch, or because those prospects never step up as everybody expected them to do.

Year in and year out, these teams are self-proclaimed Championship contenders and they always fall short of the goal because they were never a legit threat to begin with. That’s why today, we’re going to let you know the 5 most overhyped teams in the NBA right now.

5. Detroit Pistons

We don’t care if you traded for Blake Griffin, you’re not Championship contenders, not even in the weaker Eastern Conference. Don’t get me wrong, Griffin is a stud, but he can’t single-handedly lead this team to success.

The Pistons lack a true starting point guard, and neither Griffin or Drummond are great defenders, not to mention they’re a spacing nightmare for modern basketball. Sorry, Pistons fans, the playoff drought may continue, or settle for a 1st round exit.

4. Portland Trail Blazers

The Portland Trail Blazers were extremely hyped the prior campaign because of all the teams they beat and the fact that they messed around and made it all the way to the 4th seed in the West, but truth to be told, they beat those teams when they were missing key players and that showed during the postseason.

Portland didn’t land top-tier free agents and it’s pretty safe to say that the McCollum – Lillard backcourt is a defensive liability and that isolation isn’t going to get the job done in the playoffs. Sorry, Blazers, it’s time to rebuild.

3. Milwaukee Bucks

Giannis-Antetokounmpo

I get it, nobody wants to miss a second of Giannis Antetokounmpo, as he’s by far one of the most entertaining players to watch in the world right now, but he’s not enough to take that small market team to Championship contention, not even with Brook Lopez’ addition.

The Bucks should be better this year, for sure, and if Thon Maker finally steps up, they may even make it to the 2nd round of the playoffs, but that’s pretty much it. If Giannis wants to win, he better leave.

2. Washington Wizards

Every Eastern Conference Team's Biggest Lineup Problem For 2018-2019

They keep saying the Wizards are going to step up this year amid Dwight Howard’s arrival and LeBron James’ move to the Western Conference, but this team lacks the courage and chemistry to make it, even in a LeBron-less East.

Let’s forget for a second about the fact that Howard isn’t as tough as he thinks and that Beal and Wall don’t get along. This team isn’t better than the Raptors, Celtics or Sixers, so… Nope, Wizards fans, this year isn’t going to be much different than the others.

1. Minnesota Timberwolves

The Minnesota Timberwolves are not going to make the playoffs again this year. There, I said it. This team is a mess right now, and we don’t even know if Jimmy Butler will be a part of the roster come the trade deadline, so I wouldn’t get very excited if I were a Timberwolves fan.

Andrew Wiggins is maybe the most overhyped player in the last few years. He was called to be the second coming of LeBron and he’s a third scoring option with no defensive awareness whatsoever. Towns is an offensive stud but lack character in the clutch, and Butler pretty much hates playing with those guys, so there’s that.
