The Milwaukee Bucks pulled off a close 127-120 OT win over the Detroit Pistons, led by Giannis Antetokounmpo setting a new season-high with 59 points. Giannis choked up at the start of his postgame interview as the fans in Milwaukee showered him with MVP chants while the franchise is having its worst start in over six years.
“I am just proud of my teammates. They never stopped playing hard, kept moving the ball, especially in the third quarter and early fourth quarter, they started getting stops, they were rebounding, they were playing hard. For me, as long as we play that way, we always have a chance to win a game.
“At the end of the day, nobody said it’s going to be easy. I remember the year we won the championship we didn’t start the season very well, but at the end of the day, we never gave up. It doesn’t matter who plays, we never give up. As a leader, I keep reminding guys to not take moments for granted. When guys aren’t available and your number is called, go out there and give everything you have for the team, play the right way, and good things will happen. No matter who plays, we don’t give up.”

Giannis ended the night with 59 points (21-34 FG), 14 rebounds, seven assists, two steals, and three blocks, doing everything for the Bucks who were without Damian Lillard. Brook Lopez had a great night with 29 points (9-17 FG), eight rebounds, three steals, and five blocks while Taurean Prince left with 15 points (6-16 FG) and 10 rebounds for a double-double.
The Pistons fought hard all night, led by Cade Cunningham‘s 35 points (13-34 FG) and 11 assists. Former Buck Malik Beasley put up 26 points (8-17 FG, 8-16 3P) and 10 rebounds in his first game back in Milwaukee. The Pistons had three other players score in double-digits, which could’ve easily been six given three players also ended the night with nine points in the game.
Detroit led by 18 points in the third quarter but couldn’t keep the Bucks at bay led by Giannis. They could’ve sealed the win at the free throw line after Ron Holland was fouled with one second left on the clock and went to the line when it was a tie game. Unfortunately, the rookie missed both free throws as the game went to OT, where Giannis took over and outscored the Pistons 11-9.

Giannis is averaging 33.3 points, 12.1 rebounds, and 5.5 assists this season, but the Bucks record doesn’t reflect his excellence. This win helped them improve their record to 4-8, but they still have a ways to go before reintroducing themselves into the Playoff picture. If Giannis keeps performing like this, it’ll be hard for the Bucks to justify keeping a coach like Doc Rivers for a well under .500 record.
The Bucks face the Charlotte Hornets on the road on Saturday before returning home for a four-game home stand against teams like the Houston Rockets, Chicago Bulls, Indiana Pacers, and the Hornets.
