DeMar DeRozan recently shared his experience of playing alongside LeBron James in the Drew League during a 2022 game, and his reflections offer a deep insight into what the moment meant to him and the community. Speaking on the “Club 520” podcast, DeRozan expressed his admiration for LeBron’s decision to participate in the Drew League, emphasizing the significance of the gesture, especially considering LeBron’s status and long career.

“Shout out to Bron doing that, you know, he definitely a real one for that because, you know, he hit me and he was like, man, what’s up when you playing in Drew again? I’m like, next week, like come f**k with me. He said, all right, man, I’m gonna come f**k with you.”

“So I’m thinking like, all right, he probably forget how he got busy. But I think I had tweeted Debo and like the crown or whatever, pulled up and just to see how like electrified the city was, bro. Like my thing, I’m big on looking in the crowd and seeing like kids’ reactions. You know what I mean?”

“Seeing those like, like they just seen a ghost. Like to me, that’s the s**t that make it feel like, yo, this s**t is always bigger than basketball because these kids carrying this s**t like forever. For bro to do that, man, that s**t was like, that s**t was amazing.”

“20 years in, to come out there in the hood and hoop, and the game was cracking too. They took us down to the wire. Like they was out there talking s**t. Man, that s**t was probably, you know, my second favorite moment outside of when Kobe played. When Bron did that s**t, man, that s**t, that was some real s**t, man.”

DeMar DeRozan recounted how the collaboration came about, explaining that LeBron reached out to him with genuine interest in joining him on the court. Initially, DeRozan was unsure if LeBron would actually follow through, given his busy schedule and the level of commitment required. However, when LeBron showed up, it turned the event into something truly special.

The impact of LeBron’s presence was immediately felt, as the atmosphere in the gym electrified. DeRozan was particularly moved by the reactions of the young fans in the crowd. He highlighted how important it was for the community to witness a player of LeBron’s caliber playing in such an intimate and accessible setting.

For DeRozan, this experience wasn’t just about the game itself but about the broader impact on the community. He emphasized how moments like these go beyond basketball, creating lasting memories for the fans, especially the kids who idolize these players.

DeRozan described the game as one of his most memorable experiences, second only to playing alongside Kobe Bryant in a similar setting. For DeRozan, playing with LeBron James in the Drew League was a moment that captured the true essence of basketball—connecting with the community and creating memories that would last a lifetime.
