A clip of a recent interview with Kevin Durant conducted by TVOne recently surfaced, where Durant talks about the remaining time he has left in his career. KD noted that at his age, and seeing the new young crop of stars in the league, he realizes the end of his career is coming, and he finds himself contemplating retirement more and more these days.

“As I get older in the league and the league is getting younger, I tend to think about retirement more.”

“I’m not nonstop thinking about it… But it tends in my mind for sure. I honestly don’t know what I’ll do. I got a lot of interests, I definitely want to stay around the game, continue to live out the philanthropy in my hometown, and work with my mom… I truly just want to hang out and see what happens.”

“We’ve built up a lot over the last 16-17 years that can sustain for a while. I have to get in the room and see what I actually want to do when I’m done playing ball. That’s going to be a huge transition… It’s been close to 30 years of me doing this, where every day was centered around the game of basketball.”

“It hasn’t been no other lifestyle but this, so I want to just have some time and space to really step out of that matrix and figure out who I am as an individual, then step into something…”

“I don’t think I told her [Wanda Durant] how often I think about retirement. We talk about the stuff that I want to do, what I’m interested in. I want to practice now what retirement may look like, so I just take time to myself, step away from the basketball world, still work on my game. Just try to live my life as normal as possible.”

Durant’s comments are not too surprising, considering his age and how long he has been playing in the NBA. KD turns 36 at the end of September and is one of the older players in the league. While he is still performing at a high level, playing in the NBA at this age is bound to take a toll on his body and his overall health.

Kevin Durant Ready To Walk Away From Basketball?

Kevin Durant just recently added to his already stellar legacy, as he won his fourth Olympic gold medal. Durant is now the most successful male Olympic player in Team USA’s history. This accomplishment only adds to Durant’s resume and establishes him further in the list of one of the greatest players of all time.

KD now will try to return to the Suns and add to his championship record in the NBA. The Suns put together a big three with Durant, Devin Booker, and Bradley Beal. However, this massive trio floundered in the playoffs, as they were swept in the first round by Anthony Edwards, Karl-Anthony Towns, and the Timberwolves.

The Suns have been adamant about not breaking up this big three. Suns owner Matt Ishbia dismissed any rumors about the Suns getting rid of Durant via a trade. Their best hope now is to make things work with this roster and try and win the NBA championship out of a stacked Western Conference.
