Golden State Warriors owner Joe Lacob recently addressed the possibility of a one-year extension for Stephen Curry, who is eligible for a max $62.6 million deal that would keep him with the team through the 2026-27 season. In a conversation with Tim Kawakami of The New York Times, Lacob revealed that no formal discussions have taken place yet, emphasizing Curry’s current focus on the Olympics.

“We have not discussed it. He’s busy right now and he should stay busy and focused on that with the Olympics. But if he wants to talk about that, that’s up to him. He’s not said that at all, but if he wants to, we’ll certainly entertain that discussion.”

“Let’s put it this way, Steph Curry I fully anticipate he’ll be a Warrior for life. I thought Klay was going to be, too, but I was wrong.”

“And I think Steph has been … what he’s meant to this franchise has been tremendous and it’s every intention of ours to see him play as long as he wants to play and as long as he is able to play at the level he’s continued to play. He’s incredible shape, so I have no reason to believe that he couldn’t play quite a bit longer. Maybe he’s Tom Brady.”

Curry recently made headlines in an interview with Andscape’s Marc Spears, where he reaffirmed his commitment to the Warriors but also noted that he wouldn’t want to be part of a “bottom-feeder” team in the league.

Currently, Curry has two years remaining on his contract with the Warriors. Despite being one of the league’s premier players, the Warriors had a disappointing season, finishing 10th in the Western Conference and failing to advance past the play-in tournament. Curry continued to perform at an elite level, averaging 26.4 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 5.1 assists per game while shooting 45.1% from the field and 40.8% from three-point range.

The Warriors face a pivotal offseason, having lost long-time member Klay Thompson but added role players like DeAnthony Melton, Buddy Hield, and Kyle Anderson. They are also reportedly targeting Lauri Markkanen to bolster their roster. As discussions about Curry’s extension potentially begin, the franchise aims to build a competitive team around him to ensure continued success.

Stephen Curry May Have A Massive Dilemma In His Hands

Stephen Curry, currently competing with Team USA in the 2024 Paris Olympics, might soon find himself facing a massive dilemma. While he focuses on representing his country, the looming question about his future with the Golden State Warriors hangs over him like a storm cloud. Should the Warriors continue to struggle, Curry may have to consider the unthinkable: leaving the team where he has spent his entire illustrious career.

Curry has been the heart and soul of the Warriors since being drafted in 2009. His journey with the team has been nothing short of legendary, transforming a struggling franchise into a dynasty with four NBA championships. However, last season’s disappointment, where the Warriors finished 10th in the Western Conference and were eliminated in the play-in tournament, has raised concerns about the team’s trajectory.

Should the Warriors fail to regain their championship form, Curry might have to weigh his loyalty to the franchise against his desire to compete for more titles. Could he consider joining another contender to chase another ring, similar to how other superstars have made difficult choices late in their careers?

LeBron James’ moves to Miami and Los Angeles, and Kevin Durant’s departure from Oklahoma City, have shown that even the greatest players sometimes need a change of scenery to achieve their goals. Curry, known for his loyalty and deep ties to the Bay Area, would undoubtedly find such a decision heart-wrenching.

The coming seasons will be pivotal for the Warriors and Curry. If the team can retool and become a contender again, Curry may never have to face this dilemma. However, if struggles persist, the possibility of Curry donning another jersey becomes a fascinating, albeit painful, prospect for Warriors fans and NBA enthusiasts alike.
