Andre Iguodala Thinks LeBron And Steph Teaming Up On Warriors Wouldn’t Be A Superteam

Andre Iguodala thinks LeBron James is now too old for a pairing of him and Stephen Curry to form a superteam.

On the latest episode of the Point Forward podcast, Andre Iguodala posed an interesting question to his co-host Evan Turner. Iguodala asked which NBA players together would make a superteam and Turner named LeBron James and Stephen Curry as one such duo that would. Surprisingly, though, Iguodala wasn’t buying that.

“But Bron’s 40 years old, so I’m not considering that a superteam,” Iguodala said. “They got to get everything out of themselves, every ounce to get there. ‘Cause our superteam was like, man, we can play B- we still gonna win. We can play C+we still gonna win.”

Turner felt James and Curry are still playing at a high level and that combined with their IQ would make them a formidable duo. He stated they’d probably win the championship if you put Draymond Green and an elite shooter alongside them,

I agree with Turner there. Sure, LeBron is 39 years old, but he just averaged 25.7 points, 7.3 rebounds, 8.3 assists, 1.3 steals, and 0.5 blocks per game in the 2023-24 campaign. There is still a fair bit of gas left in the tank.

Pair him with Curry, who averaged 26.4 points, 4.5 rebounds, 5.1 assists, 0.7 steals, and 0.4 blocks per game in 2023-24, and I think you have the makings of a superteam. Put some defenders and shooters around them and I think they would have a very good chance at winning it all for the next couple of seasons.

Could this potential team with LeBron and Curry routinely win if they played a C+ game like the Golden State Warriors with Kevin Durant? Probably not, but I am not sure too many superteams in NBA history could have done that. The Warriors were just ridiculously stacked and I don’t think that should be the bar for a superteam.

Bob Myers Thinks LeBron James And Stephen Curry Are Perfect Complements To Each Other

Another reason why I think James and Curry would be a dominant duo is because they are a great fit together and former Warriors GM Bob Myers agrees. Myers wanted to see LeBron and Steph on the same team because they were the perfect complement to each other.

“I wish we could’ve seen [LeBron James and Steph Curry] play on the same team,” said Myers. “You know why? They are perfect complements to each other. Forget that they’re mega-stars and on the most popular teams in the NBA; Curry and LeBron complement each other on the basketball court. LeBron is a point forward, one of the best passers ever, and Curry is moving off the ball…”

It is the perfect pairing in many ways and I struggle to see how teams would have been able to stop them, especially at their best. The Warriors did try to acquire LeBron at the trade deadline earlier this year to pair him with Curry, but the Los Angeles Lakers star wasn’t interested in that move as per reports.

Following that rejection, I think it’s safe to say we won’t ever get to see them on the same team in the NBA. As a consolation, we will at least get to see James and Curry team up on Team USA for the 2024 Paris Olympics. It will be the first that they’ve been teammates in a competitive environment, having only played together in All-Star games in the past.
