The Minnesota Timberwolves picked up a hard-fought 96-94 win over the struggling Brooklyn Nets as Anthony Edwards had a big night. The Wolves guard put up 24 points in the win.
At the end of the game, Nets guard Spencer Dinwiddie lunged toward Edwards for an intentional foul in the last two seconds of the game. Edwards sidestepped Dinwiddie which led to Spencer flying past and prompting Edwards to point at him and laugh.

Dinwiddie had 14 points on 50% shooting on the night, a good game considering his recent run of form. The former Mavericks’ guard hasn’t replicated his success from Dallas since arriving in Brooklyn last winter in the Kyrie Irving trade. The Nets’ struggles are a result of their lackluster guard play, with Dinwiddie being a limiting factor this season.
Edwards has been prone to some rough stretches of form this year, with this game also not being a very strong outing. He took 23 shots to reach his 24 points, as he couldn’t spark a Wolves offense that has looked wooden all season long. They recaptured the No. 1 seed in the West with this win, so they’ll hope to continue stacking wins to keep the Thunder and Nuggets behind them.
The Minnesota Timberwolves Have Major Offensive Concerns
The Timberwolves have firmly established themselves as the best defensive team in the NBA this season. Their record is built on their incredible defense but there’s a major problem with how this team scores the basketball. The Wolves have the 19th-best offensive rating this season (114.7) and need to elevate on that front to compete with the best teams in the NBA.
Even with the excellence Edwards has shown early in his career, he’s still working on becoming a consistent offensive threat. Edwards is averaging 25.7 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 5.1 assists this season and is prone to having some poor scoring games. Thankfully, his defense has been high-level and has helped the Wolves stay atop the NBA.
Even with Karl-Anthony Towns averaging 22.7 points and 8.8 rebounds as the secondary option on the team, the Wolves need a guard that could help unlock both KAT and Edwards’ game even more. Mike Conley has been a serviceable point guard but the team needs to add a high-level sixth man option that could help them be a bigger offensive threat.
The Wolves don’t have many draft assets left after the Rudy Gobert trade, so making upgrades will be challenging. But if they can target a player like Gobert’s former teammate Jordan Clarkson to add a scoring punch to the team, it would be a great move. However, it’s unlikely the Wolves make major rotational changes via trade in a season where they’re 34-13 two weeks out from the trade deadline.
