Kyrie Irving Donates $26,000 To Patient Who Didn’t Have Enough Money For A Kidney Transplant

Kyrie Irving has continued being a philanthropist this season, donating $26,000 to help a patient get a kidney transplant.

Kyrie Irving has been criticized by many over recent seasons for his political views and actions. Despite all of that, it’s clear Irving does have a heart of gold as he’s often seen fulfilling fundraisers for people in need. He did plenty of them last season and has continued doing so, donating $26,000 to help a patient in Ghana to afford a life-saving kidney transplant.

“Kyrie Irving donated $26,000 to Andrews Dzifa Amuzu, who is waiting for a kidney transplant and doesn’t have much time. Their family wasn’t able to afford the transplant so they started a GoFundMe in desperation for help. They needed $25K, Kyrie sent $26K.”

Irving’s donation is marked as anonymous, but the organizer of the GoFundMe revealed Kyrie was the one to send the $26,000 in an emotional thank you to the Mavericks’ star.

“God richly bless each and every one who helped with the fundraising whether it be donating or sharing the link. This is a huge step to Andrew’s road to recovery from end-stage kidney failure. We’re still currently looking for a kidney donor and will update you on every step of Andrews’ road to a kidney transplant. Again thank you all who helped and a special thank you to Basketball player Kyrie Irving for his $26,000 donation. God bless!”

Kyrie has missed the last 12 games for the Dallas Mavericks after the near season-ending clash he had with teammate Dwight Powell when the Mavs’ center fell on Kyrie’s leg during a play. Irving has been out with a heel contusion ever since, but he is reportedly expected to return within the next week, maybe even tonight for the Mavs vs. Jazz game.

He’s averaging 23.0 points, 3.9 rebounds, and 5.2 assists this season, clearly making use of the new $120 million contract he got over the summer to help the ones in need.

Kyrie Irving’s History Of Donating To People In Need

Kyrie Irving has a staggeringly positive record of using his money to empower the people who need it most. Instead of launching major collaborations that generate good PR for him, Irving seems to regularly go through websites like GoFundMe to see whose life he can positively impact with a donation.

Some of the highlights of Kyrie’s donations over the last 12 months come with a $50,000 donation to a 16-year-old trying to get clean drinking water for people in her community, a $40,000 donation to a 93-year-old woman being sued by a developer to abandon her family home, a $25,000 donation to rebuild homes in Gaza, a $38,000 donation to cover funeral costs after the death of an Indian girl in North Texas, among many other such donations.

After a $45,000 donation to help children in Ghana and Nigeria get access to essential care, Irving explained why he tends to donate so much to people less fortunate than him.

“There’s so much going on in our world, I just try to do little acts of kindness every single day,” Irving said. “There’s so much going on at times, and it could be very confusing and emotional.”

Irving may struggle to win over many people due to his habits as a basketball player, including being unreliable in terms of availability or his commitment. But there’s never any doubt about the quality of his character, as Irving is genuinely empathetic and trying to do his part in helping as many people as possible.
