Charles Barkley has once again been taking shots at the Golden State Warriors and Klay Thompson isn’t too happy about it. After the Warriors lost to the Oklahoma City Thunder on Friday night, Klay fired back at Barkley.

“The only frustration with that is will this guy ever give us any credit?” Thompson said. “You know how hard this is to do? Annually? You’d think Charles would understand how hard it is to win a championship. To do that annually? And we’re still here. What are we — 10 and 12? There’s 60 freaking regular season games left. But he’s been hating on us since 2015. So this is no surprise.”

Thompson was reacting here to Barkley hilariously praising ex-Warriors GM Bob Myers for “jumping off the Titanic before it sunk”. When Myers stated he still has friends in the organization, Barkley ruthlessly said he’ll see them soon, implying some will lose their jobs.

To an extent, you do get Klay being frustrated by Barkley’s stance on Golden State over the years. The 60-year-old has never been a believer in the Warriors and has counted them out every step of the way. What the franchise has done over the last 10 years is incredible and Barkley should know how difficult it is to contend for so long and win championships.

At the same time, though, Thompson shouldn’t really care about what Sir Charles has to say. They have won four championships and comments from a talking head on television, albeit a very popular one, shouldn’t really matter at this point.

Klay Thompson Was Upset Over Charles Barkley’s Comments Last Season

Taking issue with the Hall of Famer’s comments is nothing new for Thompson. Last season, Barkley had stated Klay and Draymond Green were not that good anymore, but he made it clear that the guard wasn’t done just yet.

A few days later, Klay had an emotional response to Barkley’s comments, as he stated he needed time to get back to his best after missing more than a season with injuries. Thompson said he was hurt by them after he had put in a lot of effort to get back on the court.

In response to that, Barkley stated he was disappointed that Klay took his comments personally. He said he loves the Warriors guard but was going to stand by what he said. Later on, Thompson said he regretted responding to Barkley’s criticism to finally bring that saga to an end.

Klay Thompson’s 2023-24 Season

Klay has shown flashes of his former self at times this season, but, for the most part, he hasn’t played all that well. The 33-year-old is only averaging 15.8 points, 3.9 rebounds, 2.1 assists, 0.4 steals, and 0.6 blocks per game while shooting a career-worst 35.4% from beyond the arc.

The five-time All-Star’s poor play is one of the reasons why the Warriors have a 10-12 record to start the season. Thompson just hasn’t found his shot and has struggled defensively as well, the two areas that he excelled in for so many years.

It has been reported that Klay’s contract negotiations with the Warriors have played a part in his early season struggles. The two sides failed to come to an agreement on a new deal in the offseason and Thompson is set to hit free agency next year. It certainly could be a factor in his struggles.
