Bob Myers stepped down as GM of the Golden State Warriors after last season, and Charles Barkley hilariously credited him for abandoning that sinking ship on time.

“I wanna give you credit for jumping off the Titanic before it sunk,” Barkley said.

When Myers stated that he still has friends in the organization, Barkley brutally stated, “Yeah? You’re gonna see them soon.”

Some heads might soon roll in Golden State. The Warriors are off to a 10-11 start to this season and have had to deal with some drama as well, thanks to Draymond Green. Green has been ejected multiple times this season and also served a five-game suspension for choking Rudy Gobert. Myers, fortunately, doesn’t have to be concerned about any of that now.

He might just have walked away at the right time. Myers was promoted to the position of GM in 2012 and saw the Warriors win four championships in his time at the helm. He was also given the title of president of basketball operations in 2016 and has gone down as one of the best executives in modern NBA history.

After stepping down, Myers agreed on a deal to become an NBA analyst for ESPN, which is how he and Barkley crossed paths here. The In-Season Tournament semifinals saw an NBA Countdown-Inside the NBA crossover, which certainly proved to be a huge success.

Charles Barkley Says The Warriors Are Cooked And Got Lucky In The 2023 Playoffs

Barkley has maintained throughout this season, that the Warriors are cooked and are no longer contenders. He doubled down on that stance recently, with Barkley saying the Warriors got lucky in the 2023 playoffs against the Sacramento Kings.

“As I told y’all, this team is cooked. Y’all thought I was crazy… They got away last year because Steph went crazy in Game 7. Sacramento should have beat them.”

“Steph, he’s gonna start slowing down soon. They’ve got an old team, everybody slows down. He’s not gonna be able to continue to do that because those other guys aren’t the same, either. They’re older. This team is cooked. They’re not a contender.”

Barkley has written off the Warriors in the past as well, only for Golden State to prove him wrong, as they did by winning the title in 2022. This time around, though, the 60-year-old might be on the money.

The Warriors have not looked like serious contenders this season and unless they make a big move, this season is probably going to end in disappointment. Stephen Curry has been magnificent, but he alone can’t carry this team to a championship.

Bob Myers’ Hilarious Answer On Klay Thompson’s Future With The Warriors

The Warriors have a big decision to make with regard to Klay Thompson as well, who will be a free agent next summer. Contract talks have reportedly stalled and when Myers was asked about Thompson’s extension, he joked it was the reason he left.

“Well, this is why I left first of all,” Myers said on NBA Countdown. “A lot of times people will say it’s just business, but this is not a just business situation. There is going to be a statue of this player outside of Chase Center. He was instrumental in bringing four championships, he’s beloved inside the organization (and) with the fanbase.”

Myers is glad he doesn’t have to be a part of such delicate negotiations anymore. The feeling the 48-year-old gets is that both parties want to stay together, but there is no guarantee that a deal gets done.
