  • Myers could join ESPN on an exclusive new deal
  • NBA Countdown adding Myers as part of a major roster overhaul

Former Warriors executive Bob Myers played an enormous role in building the Golden State dynasty, which is one of the most successful the NBA has ever seen. But after several years running the show for Dub Nation, Myers left his post this summer to put Mike Dunleavy Jr. in charge.

Next up for Myers is likely a role at ESPN, as some kind of analyst or broadcaster. As reported by The New York Post’s Ryan Glasspiegel, he is in advantages negotiations with the network to join their revamped NBA coverage team.

“The Post has learned that Bob Myers is nearing a deal to join “NBA Countdown” as an analyst. Myers, 48, was the general manager of the Warriors for their championships in 2015, 2017, 2018 and 2022, with the added title of president of basketball operations during the latter three.”

ESPN’s featured NBA Show ‘NBA Countdown’ is set to look very different after a string of layoffs at the network. With several prominent analysts (like Jalen Rose, Max Kellerman, and Nick Friedell) given the boot, it has made the way for new faces to enter the fold.

As far as media experience goes, Myers hosted a podcast last season titled “Lead By Example,” so perhaps he’ll bring his pod over to ESPN with hopes of expanding his audience.

Why Did Myers Leave The Warriors?

Bob’s role in constructing the modern-day Warriors will surely make for good analysis on television, but it’s hard to imagine why anyone in that position would consider leaving.

In the case of Myers, he had everything he could want in Golden State and he’s already got enough money to last a lifetime. Even so, it apparently wasn’t enough to keep Myers engaged, as he would later go on to admit that the job requires a level of “complete engagement and complete effort” that he was unable to provide.

Only time will tell how this move works out for Myers, but he’s not done with the NBA just yet and fans can expect to see him covering the game in some form this upcoming season.
