- T-Mac goes off on the unfair backlash for Brooks
- McGrady says Dillon made a name for himself with the Grizzlies
After a rocky season with the Memphis Grizzlies, Dillon Brooks was trolled and scrutinized by the NBA community. For months, he was mocked for his role in the Grizzlies’ downfall, and some fans even predicted that he’d end up playing in China next year.
Obviously, Brooks was able to find a new deal and he’ll have a chance to prove all the haters wrong next season. But former NBA point guard Tracy McGrady actually went against the tide and stood up for Brooks. Shockingly, he commended Dillon for “making a name for himself” in Memphis despite difficult circumstances.
“I’m a fan of Dillon Brooks and here’s why: If Dillon Brooks doesn’t play the way he plays, if he doesn’t do some of the things that he did last year going at LeBron who was the league’s best player, we’re not talking about Dillon Brooks bro,” said Brooks in a chat on ‘Soop B Selects.’ “No one is talking about Dillon Brooks, right? He’s just another player that’s in the NBA that’s on somebody’s roster that people are overlooking. He’s made a name for himself. Whether it’s good or bad people are talking about him and in essence, that man just signed an $80 million dollar contract! So whatever he did, it worked for him. Good for him! All that backlash and all this stuff that people are talking about…. Maaaannn listen. Y’all wouldn’t know who Dillon Brooks was if he wasn’t competing and going at LeBron that way so he did his job. He got an $80 million dollar deal out of the shit he did last season.”
Dillon Brooks troling LeBron James & being blackballed was a media, fan narrative says Tracy McGrady on the Scoop B Radio Podcast: "I’m a fan of Dillon Brooks and here’s why: If Dillon Brooks doesn’t play the way he plays… Now some of the ‘antics’ I could do without; but I’m… https://t.co/IxAPWIJ881 pic.twitter.com/Ake8cdlQh1

Brooks played his way into the fan’s disfavor with the Grizzlies last year. While there, he participated in some antics that were highly questionable, including challenging LeBron James before their first-round playoff series.
“It definitely helped [the Lakers] get around something, get some energy,” Jackson Jr. said on the “Podcast P” show with Los Angeles Clippers forward Paul George. “But he is old. He kicked our a**, and he’s old.”
Can Brooks Find Redemption In Houston?
Dillon Brooks became the scapegoat in Memphis, and he was promptly exiled in the summer when the team refused to offer him a new contract. After signing for $80 million, he secured a huge deal that shocked many fans, but now it’s up to him to live up to the money.
With averages of 14.3 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 2.6 assists on 39.6% shooting last season, he’ll have to be better all around if he wants to maximize his run with the Rockets. Most importantly, he’ll have to stay out of trouble and avoid pissing off the wrong people.
