If anyone thought Nikola Jokic was going to rest on his laurels after winning his first championship, they were grossly mistaken. The Serbian is having another incredible season in 2023-24 and he currently leads the NBA in total points, rebounds, and assists.

Total Points

1. Nikola Jokic – 579 points

2. Giannis Antetokounmpo – 569 points

3. Luka Doncic – 565 points

Total Rebounds

1. Nikola Jokic – 255 rebounds

2. Anthony Davis – 249 rebounds

3. Rudy Gobert – 221 rebounds

Total Assists

1. Nikola Jokic – 196 assists

2. Trae Young – 192 assists

3. Tyrese Haliburton – 189 assists

It is quite frankly ridiculous that Jokic is leading in all three categories considering nearly a fourth of the season is in the books. It is also noteworthy that the 28-year-old is the only player in the top 3 in more than one category there.

The five-time All-Star has been simply phenomenal and Jokic is one of the leading candidates for MVP yet again. He is averaging 29.0 points, 12.8 rebounds, 9.8 assists, 1.2 steals, and 0.8 blocks per game this season while shooting 56.8% from the field.

He has a great chance of potentially joining Oscar Robertson and Russell Westbrook as the only players to average a triple-double for a full season if he keeps this up. Jokic has never been one to care about stats, so I don’t expect him to focus too much on accomplishing that feat. It would be quite special if he manages to do it, though.

Evan Turner Thinks The Nikola Jokic Era Is Just Getting Started

Jokic got the proverbial monkey off his back last season by winning the title and he cemented his status as one of the greatest big men of all time. Former NBA player Evan Turner thinks that this is now the beginning of the Jokic era.

“Jokic, every single year. I know he just won a championship and MVP but what he’s doing and the level he’s doing it at… Jokic is really up there. This is probably his era. I’m looking to see what he’s doing, and going from being a skeptical individual – to paying attention to his story and the legacy he’s gonna leave.”

It very well could be so. It is not an exaggeration to say that Jokic’s 2023 playoff run was one of the best we have ever seen. He averaged 30.0 points, 13.5 rebounds, 9.5 assists, 1.1 steals, and 1.0 blocks per game while shooting 54.8% from the field and 46.1% from beyond the arc.

As long as he has a healthy supporting cast around him, Jokic is going to have the Denver Nuggets in the mix for a championship. The Western Conference looks pretty strong this season, but I’d still have the Nuggets as the clear favorites to win it, as long as they are healthy.

Nikola Jokic Reminds Charles Barkley Of Tim Duncan

Last year, Jokic had said that he wanted to be the Tim Duncan of the Nuggets but acknowledged he had to win a couple of championships for that. Well, he has managed to win one now and will almost certainly win more by the time his career is done.

He is also drawing comparisons to the San Antonio Spurs big man, with Charles Barkley saying Jokic reminds him of Duncan. Barkley praised Jokic for doing whatever the team wants him to do on a given night and stated that the lack of drama surrounding him reminds him of Duncan.

Marion’s versatility as a defender and his rebounding prowess, despite being just 6’7”, impressed Gautam immensely. He admired Marion’s finishing ability at the rim and his shooting, despite an unconventional jump shot, believing that Marion’s skill set would have been even more appreciated in today’s NBA.This transformative experience not only deepened his love for basketball but also shaped his approach to sports writing, enabling him to connect with readers through vivid storytelling and insightful analysis.
