Josh Giddey has had a spanner thrown in the middle of his promising NBA career, as allegations of him dating a minor went viral on social media. This included videos and pictures of Giddey with an alleged 15-year-old, as the pair seem to refer to each other as romantic partners. Chet Holmgren and Giddey have shared a great relationship since Chet got drafted, but the rookie center has wiped posts with Giddey from social media.

He deleted a post from before the start of the season where he called Giddey ‘twin’ and said that the pair are ‘locked into’ the season together.

The NBA will likely have people heavily investigate this matter over Thanksgiving before we find out more at the start of next week unless people on social media somehow find more information before that.

Giddey had a slow start to the season, averaging 12.3 points, 5.7 rebounds, and 4.5 assists. It seems like he won’t get a chance to fix his numbers, as the Thunder will likely have to temporarily discipline him and keep him out of the fire. But we’ve seen the NBA honor Karl Malone despite everything he has done, so maybe Giddey is welcomed back with open arms and protected by the NBA.

Josh Giddey Turned Off Comments On His Instagram

We know that Giddey has been swamped with messages from people looking to confirm the story. His Instagram has already seen major changes, with the Thunder guard replacing his IG display with a plain black picture. In addition, he has turned off commenting on all his IG posts, showing he knows that the comments will be filled with hate after the allegations against him.

We’re careful to say ‘allegations’, as a verified source needs to confirm the details of what’s happening here. The initial conversation was started by an X user sharing compilations of pics and videos, but that account has since been suspended. The pictures and videos are circulating all over the internet, so people can still review the allegations for their own sake.

If these allegations are real, Giddey will find himself in a tough spot. We know the league won’t stop him from playing, with the Karl Malone example as a precedent. However, with Chet deleting posts with him, the Thunder themselves may look to move on. Giddey’s career won’t be over unless the NBA explicitly says that because his talent will warrant a place for him on a roster.

This is a slightly unprecedented situation in the social media era for the NBA, so they’ll carefully try and figure out what’s the right course of action here. Hopefully, that also involves informing the fans of the details of the situation and imploring NBA players to make better choices. Unfortunately, because of Giddey’s notoriety, a possibly 15-year-old girl’s social media details are available for the world to see.
