Devin Booker Was Upset And Tried To Shove Victor Wembanyama Who Ignored Him

Victor Wembanyama completely ignored Devin Booker trying to shove him mid-play and still out-rebounder him.

The Phoenix Suns lost to the San Antonio Spurs in back-to-back games, with the second loss coming last night and featuring Devin Booker‘s return to the lineup. Unfortunately, Booker’s return was overshadowed by the Victor Wembanyama show. Booker struggled and let his frustrations show with a shove on Wemby mid-game that the Frenchman ignored to gain an offensive rebound.

The play started with Booker appearing to flop on the transition and blaming Wembanyama for the contact that sent him to the ground. There probably was marginal contact, but whether Booker oversold it or not is a different question. Ultimately, it just shows how physically gifted Wemby is.

Booker being a guard probably helped Wemby ignore the shove and carry on playing, but it’s not like Booker is minuscule. He did what a good center does and ground out the possession instead of falling to the ground himself and possibly getting Booker hit with a flagrant foul.

Victor Wembanyama’s Legendary Night

Victor Wembanyama had the kind of standout rookie performance people have been waiting for him to have since his debut. He ended the night with 38 points, 10 rebounds, and two blocks in a dominant showing against the Suns. He was nailing jump shots with confidence and was an absolute force in the paint. The Suns’ center rotation has no chance as Wembanyama was unstoppable for large stretches.

Kevin Durant was amazed at the prospect he faced in these two games, pegging Wembanyama for legendary status in a comment after the second game.

“He’s his own player, person. He’s going to create his own lane. He’s much different than anybody who’s ever played. You can try to compare, but he’s going to carve out his own lane.”

Durant struggled when faced with Wembanyama on both ends, so his comments are pretty salient. He still dropped 28 points tonight, but it wasn’t enough for a contending Suns team that lost back-to-back games against a rebuilding squad? The first game saw Durant have a couple of bad moments in the clutch that essentially lost the Suns the game.

Maybe Wembanyama turns out to be the generational prospect everyone knows he is instantly and lead the Spurs to the playoffs when the Conference is as deep as it is.

Devin Booker And Jeremy Sochan Got Into It During The Game

The contest was largely one-sided. In the first game, the Spurs trailed the entire game and didn’t take the lead till the last second to seal the win. This time, they carried on from where they left off, opening with a 9-0 run. They ended the first quarter with a 19-point lead and went into halftime with a 20-point lead.

The Suns started whittling that lead down, cutting it to four points in the fourth quarter, looking to do what the Spurs did to them in back-to-back games. Devin Booker was on song and decided to taunt Jeremy Sochan after the Suns came within four points.

The Suns ultimately lost the game, prompting Sochan to respond to Booker on social media.

“They lost, post the rest.”

Booker had 31 points, nine rebounds, and 13 assists on the night, marking a fantastic return to the court. However, he had a rough time in the clutch, unable to score and actively leading to worse possessions for the Suns.

Ultimately, the story was all about Victor Wembanyama, who outshone both Booker and Durant, dominating from start to finish.
