Former Warriors’ GM Bob Myers has commented on the ongoing situation in Philadelphia with James Harden wanting out of the franchise. He is advising Daryl Morey to just listen to what Joel Embiid wants and deliver that for the franchise superstar.
“If it was me, I’d go to Steph Curry, Joel Embiid, ‘What do you want?’ ‘I want him on the team.’ ‘I got it’… My responsibility is to get the best player on my team and I go to him, ‘Listen, what do you want?’ If he’s unhappy, it ends the conversation… The thing that’s hard about this is how it’s playing out in front of us.”

Morey knows very well that managing egos in the NBA is extremely important for a GM. He could shed his and do whatever the team needed him to do.
This is perfectly encapsulated by his facilitating a Kevin Durant sign-and-trade to the Brooklyn Nets in 2019 instead of forcing him to sign as a free agent because it gave the team D’Angelo Russell, who turned into Andrew Wiggins, arguably the second-best player on the 2022 championship squad.
Morey is clearly giving a personal response to the Harden situation given their close relationship for over a decade. Ultimately, he needs to do what keeps Joel Embiid happy because a wrong move here could lead to the 76ers losing the best player in franchise history since Allen Iverson.
The Clippers Backing Out Of The James Harden Trade Race
For the second time since July, the Clippers have been reported to step out of the Harden trade talks and move forward with their franchise. This leaves no confirmed suitors for Harden.
“For the foreseeable future, the Clippers are stepping back from James Harden trade talks. They’re essentially pausing them. They’ve talked with Philadelphia for months and have made their best offer… They may revisit this later in the season.”

The Clippers are better off trying to see what their healthy core can bring them before punting assets on a Harden trade. If Paul George or Kawhi Leonard were to get hurt and the Clippers’ playoff hopes look grim, bringing in a player like Harden would be extremely valuable.
Harden averaged 21.0 points, 6.1 rebounds, and 10.7 assists last season and could provide the Clippers with what they need to be competitive. However, the Clippers could already be competitive and be better off by searching for a cheaper point guard like Malcolm Brogdon in Portland if needed.
James Harden Asked Not To Travel With The 76ers
After spending 10 days away from the 76ers’ practice due to ‘personal reasons’, the former MVP confirmed his intention of joining the team on their season-opening road trip in Milwaukee and Toronto. However, it’s been confirmed that the 76ers asked Harden not to report and remain in Philadelphia, according to Shams Charania.
“James Harden returned to Philadelphia on Tuesday night with his bags packed to join the team on the road for Thursday vs. Bucks and Saturday vs. Raptors, but the 76ers have now asked him not to travel with the team.”
This basically confirms that the 76ers are not planning on reintegrating Harden into the squad. It’s unclear if he’ll be kept off the team sheet even when the 76ers play home games or not, but this is a clear sign that the 76ers think they can be fine without him. What Joel Embiid feels is a different matter, but the 76ers seem confident.
