Point guard Jamal Murray is one of the best players on the Denver Nuggets right now, and one of the pillars of their franchise. It is quite likely that the Nuggets will do anything to keep him for the long term, and it seems as though that involves paying him a supermax contract if he gets selected to an All-NBA team.

Recently, we saw Nuggets GM Calvin Booth reveal that he is anticipating Jamal Murray to make an All-NBA team this season, and thus earn the supermax from the franchise.

“We’re anticipating that we’re probably paying him the supermax,” Booth said per Mark Medina of Sportskeeda Basketball. “He’ll probably make All-NBA. It’s going to be a hit to our salary cap. But I love seeing people reach their potential when they play the way he can.”

It will be interesting to see if Jamal Murray can actually make an All-NBA team this season. The way he played in the playoffs certainly suggests that he has the talent, but the key is being able to keep up those performances over the course of an entire season.

During the 2022-23 regular season, Jamal Murray averaged 20.0 points, 4.0 rebounds, and 6.2 assists per game for the Nuggets. Though those are solid regular season numbers, he will have to up his overall production to make an All-NBA squad and ultimately get the supermax.

Jamal Murray Is All About Winning Rather Than Accolades

Even though Jamal Murray is talented enough to get a lot of individual awards, it seems as though the guard prefers to focus on winning. In fact, Murray once got real about potentially being an All-Star with the Nuggets this season, stating that he would rather be a champion.

“I’d rather be a champion. A lot of guys are All-Stars and not champions.”

It is true that a lot of All-Star players don’t become NBA champions. Though individual accolades and production are certainly important, the goal in basketball is to win games and try to win a championship. Ultimately, when a team wins, usually everyone on the roster gets paid what they desire.

Of course, a regular season leap from Jamal Murray could help the Denver Nuggets become a better team overall. Hopefully, we see him reach the next level as a point guard, and we’ll see what happens in the future.

Jamal Murray Believes He And Nikola Jokic Are The Best Duo In The NBA

There is no doubt that Jamal Murray and Nikola Jokic are the two main stars of the Nuggets, and they have shown they can win a championship together. They are clearly a talented pairing, and Murray once claimed that he and Jokic are the most dominant duo in the NBA.

“If I’m shooting the pull-up three, the big has to be up,” Murray said. “If they blitz me and I hit Joker in the pocket, now we’re playing four on three with the best passing center of all time. So I think just the levels to our game, the levels to the pick and roll, you know, I can set a screen for him. We got so many different options out of that. I think, I think we have the most versatile and dominant one-two punch in the league and that’s not a knock on anybody else. That’s just my belief in us and, what we can do and what we have done.”

Hopefully, we see the two players have great seasons in 2023-24. Jokic is quite likely to be an MVP candidate once again, while Murray is almost a lock to make the All-Star team.

Of course, the two stars will also have to ensure that they don’t have a championship hangover. Sometimes, we see teams take a step back after winning. However, the Nuggets have the talent to be a dynasty, and they cannot afford to take a step back in their pursuit of sustained championship success.
