  • The NBA App launched its ‘Future Starts Now’ feature
  • The ‘Future Starts Now’ feature will allow users to stream high school games
  • The NBA is always looking to advance in technology

The NBA is always trying to keep up with the technology of the day. Their popular NBA app made a lot of noise last year when it was announced fans could scan themselves into the game.

This year, the NBA app wants to focus on bringing young talent to the forefront. Their ‘Future Starts Now’ initiative will feature the ability to watch live games of high school stars.

“When we launched the NBA App last season, we made a commitment to make it the premier destination for elite basketball,” said NBA Senior Vice President, Head of Social, Digital & Original Content Andrew Yaffe. “Spotlighting the game’s brightest young stars through this new program with events like the 2023 Nike World Basketball Festival gives fans a closer look at the next generation of stars from the beginning of their basketball journey.”

This is yet another feature of bringing the game of basketball closer to fans. It will bring more attention to young players who have the potential to become future stars in the NBA.

The journey is what appears to be exciting. Fans can follow a player from the high school level to college and, eventually, to the NBA. It will be similar to the sports world’s focus on LeBron James when he was in high school.

Yet, with the NBA app, you can follow any player at your own leisure.

2023 Nike World Basketball Festival

The NBA ‘Future Starts Now’ app began by following the 2023 Nike World Basketball Festival. This tournament was held from September 15-16, and it was at New York City’s Lincoln Center.

The two-day tournament featured the best 80 high school basketball players from over the United States, as well as three counties. The event was divided into the boys game and the girls game.

This event was a way to showcase the young talent in the basketball world while honoring New York City’s rich history.

“If running is the heart of Nike, then basketball has always been Nike’s soul,” Scott Uzzell, Vice President and General Manager of Nike North America said. “There’s no place like New York City to witness basketball’s deep connection to culture. And that influence grows as the global game continues to grow.”

On top of the best high schoolers, current and former NBA stars were in attendance. This includes Kevin Durant, Devin Booker, Dirk Nowitzki, Jason Kidd, Scottie Pippen, and Carmelo Anthony.

The NBA and Nike being at the forefront of showcasing young NBA talent is inspiring. As a basketball fan, you have to feel excited. The future of the game looks strong, and basketball will continue to only grow in popularity.
