  • Kevin Durant and Giannis Antetokounmpo both have won almost every major award at the NBA level
  • NBA fans on Reddit debated if they would choose 25-year-old Kevin Durant to build around or 25-year-old Giannis Antetokounmpo
  • Most fans were split on which of the two former MVPs they would choose in this scenario

Kevin Durant and Giannis Antetokounmpo are two of the most unstoppable talents to dominate the NBA in the last 15 years. They dominate in different ways, but both have won nearly every major accolade on offer.

NBA fans on Reddit were recently asked if they would build a franchise around 25-year-old Kevin Durant or 25-year-old Giannis Antetokounmpo. And their answers were interesting, to say the least.

One fan wrote, “KD is much easier to build around than Giannis because Giannis needs a Brook Lopez-style center and everyone else around him needs to shoot.”

Another made a more emphatic statement, saying, “I don’t think there is any team in existence where it would not improve if you put KD in it.”

One fan had to remind everyone else Giannis was already winning MVP at 25, writing, “Quite a few people in this comment section ignoring Giannis being 25 lines up with his first MVP.”

Another fan addressed why they wouldn’t choose Kevin Durant, saying, “Imagine KD trying to win a ring with Khris Middleton as his 2nd best player instead of Stephen Curry.”

Giannis seems to be a better teammate according to one fan who said, “With the right team around him Giannis just elevates his teammates higher than KD.”

But some remained convinced that Durant is the answer, with one fan saying, “I mean, KD is a cheat code. If you have a competent organization you should win and easily be able to build around him.”

It’s never easy to pick one answer in a scenario like this, but the fans on Reddit seemed to be split down the middle when it came to Kevin Durant and Giannis Antetokounmpo.

Comparing Kevin Durant And Giannis Antetokounmpo’s Age 25 Seasons

The answer to this question can be found in the statistics. At age 25, both players were dominating the NBA and had already become MVPs.

During his age-25 season in 2013-14, Kevin Durant became the NBA scoring champion for a fourth time, won MVP, and averaged 32.0 points, 7.4 rebounds, 5.5 assists, and 1.3 steals per game shooting over 50% from the field.

During his age-25 season in 2019-20, Giannis Antetokounmpo won his second MVP award, was named Defensive Player Of The Year, and averaged 29.5 points, 13.6 rebounds, 5.6 assists, 1.0 steals, and 1.0 blocks per game.

It’s impossible to say which of the two is objectively better, and the right answer to this question seems to be that it’s impossible to go wrong if a team has either a 25-year-old Kevin Durant or a 25-year-old Giannis Antetokounmpo.

Giannis Antetokounmpo Has Longer To Prove He Is The Right Answer To This Question

Giannis Antetokounmpo is 28 years of age going into the 2023-24 NBA season. He has at least 5-6 years more left at the highest level and will have the opportunity to add to his championship and Finals MVP.

Kevin Durant has one more championship and one more Finals MVP than Antetokounmpo but it wasn’t with a team built around him. He is also turning 35 years old in five days, meaning he has fewer opportunities to add to his resume.

If Giannis Antetokounmpo is able to surpass Kevin Durant’s achievements before he retires, then the answer to this question will become obvious. For now, though, either would be the dream for any franchise if they were 25 years old.
