  • This proposed trade sends two-way forward Pascal Siakam to the Dallas Mavericks
  • The Mavericks would gain an elite No. 3 option who could play off Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving
  • The Toronto Raptors get a good trade package for a star on an expiring contract

The Dallas Mavericks are a team that is clearly trying to win immediately, as they have re-signed Kyrie Irving and added a number of quality veterans to the roster. They are clearly committed to building around Luka Doncic, but it is fair to say they are still a step behind Western Conference powerhouses such as the Phoenix Suns and the Denver Nuggets.

Perhaps a trade could help the Dallas Mavericks add talent and improve their roster overall. One of the holes in their roster is their lack of a two-way forward with size who can contribute on the offensive end while also still playing elite defense. Perhaps Pascal Siakam of the Toronto Raptors is a suitable trade target. Here is a potential trade framework.

Dallas Mavericks Receive: Pascal Siakam

Toronto Raptors Receive: Tim Hardaway Jr., Christian Wood (Sign-And-Trade), Josh Green, Olivier-Maxence Prosper, 2027 First-Round Pick (DAL)

There is no doubt that this trade could potentially pay huge dividends for the Dallas Mavericks. The team clearly needs Pascal Siakam’s skill set, and he could really vault them to true contender status. Here is why this trade makes sense for both the Mavericks and the Toronto Raptors.

The Dallas Mavericks Get The Perfect No. 3 Option In Pascal Siakam

There is no doubt that Pascal Siakam is the modern forward that a lot of teams would love to have. He is a fantastic slasher, can work in the post, and is a solid playmaker. There are also times when he can stretch the floor as well. Defensively. He can comfortably guard 1 through 4, and depending on the matchup, Siakam can guard some centers as well. This past season, Pascal Siakam averaged 24.2 points, 7.8 rebounds, and 5.8 assists per game, while shooting 32.4% from 3PT range.

In 2019, Pascal Siakam won a championship as the No. 2 scoring option on the Toronto Raptors. He knows what it takes to win, and this version of Siakam is far better than the one from the 2018-19 season. As a No. 3 option, Pascal Siakam would be a luxury. Next to two elite scorers like Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving, Siakam could focus on defense, rebounding, and playmaking. At this point, it is fair to say that Pascal Siakam can’t be the No. 1 option on a championship team, but he could easily play a role on a ring squad as a supporting star.

This would be a consolidation trade for the Dallas Mavericks, as they would essentially be moving contracts, young players, and a first-round pick in this deal. The risk here is clearly Pascal Siakam’s contract situation, as the star is on an expiring deal and could leave at the end of the 2023-24 season. Still, it is a risk worth taking as if the team is successful, Pascal Siakam could decide to stay. This sort of move would also show Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving that the team is serious about competing for a championship. Overall, this is a team that could push the Mavericks over the top, and it would give them an elite Big 3.

The Toronto Raptors Get Good Value For An Expiring Contract

If the Toronto Raptors don’t want to re-sign Pascal Siakam or vice-versa, the team should trade him. Losing him in free agency like the team did with Fred VanVleet this summer would be the worst potential outcome. At least in this trade, the team would get solid value, and this deal has some interesting pieces that could help the Toronto Raptors rebuild.

Christian Wood is a great offensive big man, who has 3PT shooting ability. This past season with the Dallas Mavericks, he averaged 16.6 points, 7.3 rebounds, and 1.8 assists per game while shooting 37.6% from 3PT range. He would be a solid player that the team could either start or play off the bench and though Wood has defensive limitations, he is a talent worth taking a shot on.

The young players in this deal are Josh Green and Olivier Maxence-Prosper. Green is already a decent 3 and D player, while Maxence-Prosper profiles to be a great multi-positional defender. Though it is unclear if either player has star-level potential, they are still decent prospects for the Toronto Raptors to develop. The non-player aspect of this deal involves a future first-round pick, which could end up being fairly valuable going forward.

Tim Hardaway Jr.’s contract would be used in this deal as a salary-matching component, but he could also provide decent shooting and scoring coming off the bench. He could also be traded later on by the Toronto Raptors to a team that needs scoring or salary relief.

Overall, this is a deal that seems to be a good move for the Toronto Raptors. There is no doubt that this is a quality return for a good player in the last year of his deal such as Pascal Siakam.

This Is A Win-Win Trade For The Mavericks And Raptors

The Toronto Raptors have a star on an expiring contract, while the Dallas Mavericks are desperate to get another difference-making player. They are a good trade match for one another, and perhaps we could see Pascal Siakam on in the future.

It will be interesting to see if the Toronto Raptors restart trade talks regarding Pascal Siakam at some point before the start of the season. If they were to do that, it makes sense for them to contact the Dallas Mavericks, and we’ll have to continue to monitor the team’s movement going forward.
