- James Harden and the LA Clippers star duo of Kawhi Leonard and Paul George have been in talks
- Harden has been vocal about joining the Clippers
- The guard joining the Clippers will make them an absolute powerhouse
The James Harden to the LA Clippers narrative is set to garner steam again with the latest update being the guard in talks with Kawhi Leonard and Paul George.
According to Yahoo! Sports’ Vincent Goodwill, “What I’ve heard is that, hey, James has been in conversation with Paul and Kawhi, and they’re all kind of on the same page.”
He also added what Harden’s role would look like with the Clippers:
“Long reliever where he’s going to eat up innings, he going to eat up games, he’s going to eat up usage while you can nurse Kawhi and Paul and hopefully get them to April where hopefully they’ll be healthy. And you can sort of power James down a little bit and turn this thing over to the two playoff players.”
Harden was in the news a few days ago for publicly blasting Philadelphia 76ers President Daryl Morey, calling him a ‘liar’. And the ramification was the league fining him $100,000 for his remarks.
Now, the focus is back on what Harden could do if he indeed gets traded to the Clippers ahead of the start of the 2023-24 season. Goodwill believed that the Clippers star duo of Leonard and George were on the same page with Harden following their conversations, the details of which are unknown.
Harden joining the Clippers will surely make them title contenders and change the balance of power in the Western Conference. With Russell Westbrook in the mix, the team will have no shortage of firepower and has the skill to go the distance.
That said, there is still no clarity on the Sixers dealing ‘The Beard’. Their expectations are quite clear with what they need in return and that makes it challenging for the Clippers to see what they can offer in a trade package that piques the Sixers’ interest.
Kawhi Leonard And Paul George Reportedly Want James Harden On The LA Clippers
It’s not just James Harden who has been favoring a move to the Clippers. The likes of Kawhi Leonard and Paul George reportedly want him on the roster as well.
Per Sam Amick of The Athletic, Harden is likely to land with the Clippers and both Leonard and George are said to be on board with the idea of Harden potentially joining their core, according to sources.
This past season, James Harden averaged 21.0 points, 6.1 rebounds, and 10.7 assists per game, while shooting 38.5% from 3PT range. The numbers show his scoring prowess and the fact that he is an impact player at any given point in time.
At this stage, it is clear that Harden’s primary objective is to simply move on from the Sixers. It will be interesting to see what other teams join the Harden sweepstakes, o whether the Clippers manage to pull off the blockbuster trade, even if it means depleting some of their assets in the process.
