  • Dillon Brooks was asked which aspect of his game has grown the most
  • Brooks pointed to his defensive mindset
  • The Rockets forward says he is one of the most elite defenders in the NBA

Dillon Brooks feels he is among the very best defenders in the NBA today. The ever-confident Brooks is never one to sell himself short, and he made that bold claim about his defense during an interview with Sportsnet recently.

“I’ve definitely grown in my defensive mindset,” Brooks said. “I feel like that’s why I mostly got paid, it’s because I’m one of the most elite defenders in the NBA and relentless when it comes to it.”

(starts at 3:43 mark):

He gets a lot of criticism for his antics, but the 27-year-old is a very good defender. Brooks made the NBA All-Defensive Second Team in 2022-23 and averaged 14.3 points, 3.3 rebounds, 2.6 assists, 0.9 steals, and 0.2 blocks per game in the campaign.

Brooks certainly got paid a lot for his defense, as he landed a four-year, $86 million deal with the Houston Rockets, which could go up to $90 million based on incentives.

The Rockets are hoping that his defense and toughness can help their young team that struggled a lot last season, going 22-60. They were tied for the worst record in the Western Conference and their defensive rating of 118.6, as per the NBA, was the second-worst in the league.

Dillon Brooks Spoke About His Beef With LeBron James And The Villain Role

Brooks loves himself some trash-talking, but it horribly backfired on him in these past playoffs. He poked the bear that was LeBron James and then proceeded to have a terrible series against the Los Angeles Lakers.

During this interview, Brooks spoke about his beef with LeBron and the villain role in the NBA.

He claims he always had LeBron and added that he had talked trash all season long. Brooks doesn’t think it was detrimental to the Memphis Grizzlies, as they won over 50 games in the 2022-23 campaign.

Brooks also stated he isn’t affected anymore by the fact that he is viewed as a villain.

His passion for the sport was ignited after witnessing the high-octane offense of the Steve Nash-led Phoenix Suns. Among the Suns, Shawn Marion stood out to Gautam as an all-time underrated NBA player. Marion’s versatility as a defender and his rebounding prowess, despite being just 6’7”, impressed Gautam immensely. He admired Marion’s finishing ability at the rim and his shooting, despite an unconventional jump shot, believing that Marion’s skill set would have been even more appreciated in today’s NBA.This transformative experience not only deepened his love for basketball but also shaped his approach to sports writing, enabling him to connect with readers through vivid storytelling and insightful analysis.
