- Charles Barkley applauds LeBron for delivering on expectations from day one
- Chuck gives credit to James for staying out of trouble for 20+ years
- LeBron’s scandal-free career is unique among top stars
No matter where LeBron James ranks on your all-time list, nobody can deny that his journey to greatness is one of the best we’ve ever seen. From a humble kid in Akron Ohio, to a player compared to Michael Jordan himself, LeBron’s career is an incredible story of dedication, persistence, and perseverence.
According to Charles Barkley, it’s the greatest story in the history of sports, not just basketball. “I think LeBron’s story is the greatest in sports history. People forget Kobe Bryant wasn’t very good coming into the NBA. People forget that. The only guy I’ve ever seen who came right out of High School who lived up to it was LeBron.”
LeBron embraced the sky-high expectations for him, notoriously referring to himself as “the Chosen One” to draw a direct link between him and Michael Jordan. But LeBron was able to deliver on expectations from the very beginning, averaging 20.9 points per game in his very first season.
“For him to come in at 18 and be as good as he was as a player, and arguably he’s come in and he’s one of the greatest ever depending on what generation you’re from,” argued Barley. “And to never have gotten in trouble, especially, in today’s society where everybody’s got a cell phone, I think his story is the greatest story in sports.”

The biggest scandal of LeBron’s career was his decision to join the Heat in 2011. Aside from that ordeal, James has a squeaky-clean record with no family drama and no reason to question his moral values.
Over the years, LeBron has gone even further than that by speaking out on social justice issues and other problems that currently plague our world.
All-in-all, LeBron has been the perfect role model and he’s been flawless as the face of the NBA. That’s not even to mention his various achievements over the years, the most impressive of which involved winning the first title for the Cleveland Cavaliers.
Is LeBron The GOAT Of Basketball?
Judging LeBron as a player and as a leader are two entirely different things. As a leader, nobody else has been able to avoid scandals and controversy like he has — and even now, over 20 years after his career began, his track cannot be discredited.
As a player, however, many would still argue he doesn’t quite match up to Jordan. As a 4x champion, 4x MVP, and 19x All-Star, he falls short in some areas compared to the Bulls legend.
Even still, nobody comes closer than James to surpassing MJ and it really says a lot about how far LeBron has come since his debut way back in 2003.
