  • Iman Shumpert opened up on what it is like to play alongside LeBron James
  • He explained that LeBron James’ elite intelligence and mindset is truly unique
  • Iman Shumpert compared playing with LeBron James to playing with Carmelo Anthony

Iman Shumpert was teammates with LeBron James for three years during his second stint with the Cleveland Cavaliers and won the 2016 NBA championship with him.

Speaking during a podcast recently, Shumpert spoke about being LeBron James’ teammate and broke down his exceptional mindset.

“He doesn’t see the game how you see it,” Shumpert said. “It’s literally what makes him special. Because they say like, whatever age you get your money, you stay that age.

“They say this as far as your spirit, your mindset, your mentality. His mindset of how Xs and Os work is special.

“And when you’re like playing with him, it’s cool because most people with LeBron’s skill set and his mind… Either they can’t communicate it to you or they ain’t fed to. Cuz they don’t want you to be nothing like them.”

LeBron James has earned a reputation for making his teammates better and allowing them to flourish. This was on display during the 2016 championship run, when he got the most out of all his teammates to help the Cavaliers get over the hump.

Playing with LeBron James isn’t easy in some ways. John Stockton recently pointed out that it can likely be ‘maddening’ to be his teammate. But on the court, it’s hard to imagine a single better superstar to have on a team.

Iman Shumpert Compared Playing With LeBron James To Playing With Carmelo Anthony

LeBron James and Carmelo Anthony were both drafted in the 2003 NBA Draft and both were vying to be the face of the league early in their careers.

And while talking about LeBron James, Shumpert compared that to his time playing alongside Carmelo Anthony on the New York Knicks.

“As a competitor, that’s just what it is. They just push that sh*t off, and they continue to whoop your a** till you catch up. I had to play under Melo, like Melo’s that guy.

“‘I can’t jump in your body and do it for you, Shump.’ Thirty times, ‘Look, give me the ball. Give me the ball in the game and I’ll do it.’”

LeBron James’ uniqueness as an NBA superstar is truly second to none, and it’s a big reason why, despite being 38 years old, fans expect him to lead the Los Angeles Lakers to success next season.
