- Grizzlies star is still dealing with the fallout from a 25-game suspension
- Paul Pierce challenges Ja to re-claim his place at the top of the league
- Pierce believes Ja has the most to prove out of any star next season
In the aftermath of a scandalous summer, Grizzlies star Ja Morant is currently battling massive damage to his image and brand. Facing a 25-game suspension to open next season, Morant still has time to serve before he can even begin to recover his career. This is why, during a segment on the ‘KG Certified’ podcast this week, Paul Pierce challenged Morant to re-take his spot at the top of the league.
“Ja is one of the top 10, top 15 players in the world,” said Pierce. “I’m looking for him to reestablish who he is on and off the court because I think he got the most to show and the most to prove.”

The list of incidents stretches long for no. 12, and it includes making threats toward teenagers, pointing laser pointers at the opposing team’s bus, and getting into a fistfight at a High School Volleyball game.
The biggest mistake of all for Morant was flashing his gun on IG Live on not one but two separate occasions. The second time was enough to earn him that 25-game suspension.
So, for Morant, the consequences of his actions are really starting to rack up. Not only is he set to miss a large chunk of next season, but he’s also set to see losses of up to $50 million.
What’s Next For Ja Morant?
In the aftermath of a brutal offseason, the future is still uncertain for Morant. His talent is undeniable, of course, but it remains to be seen if he can stay on course at home and avoid sabotaging his career any further.
Now, with questions and doubt about his character and leadership, Morant has a steep climb ahead to earn back the favor of the fans. At this point, the only path to redemption is for him to deliver where it counts the most: in the playoffs.
Only by taking the Grizzlies to new heights in the West will Morant begin to shake the demons from his back and he’s going to be working all summer (and all throughout his suspension) to ensure he’s in the best possible position for success.
