  • NBA investigates Harden’s “liar” comments on Morey, assessing potential holdout and salary cap issues
  • Harden’s private clarifications could impact the consequences
  • Uncertainty clouds Harden’s relationship with Sixers as investigation unfolds before training camp

The NBA has commenced an inquiry into the recent public remarks made by Philadelphia 76ers star James Harden regarding Daryl Morey, the team’s president of basketball operations. Harden’s comments, in which he referred to Morey as a “liar”  has prompted the league to examine potential violations of league rules.

The league’s investigation aims to decipher whether Harden’s comments hinted at a possible holdout during the 2023-24 season, a breach of the collective bargaining agreement, or if they alluded to previous contractual discussions that could potentially involve salary cap manipulation.

Sources close to the matter suggest that Harden privately clarified his stance, attributing his comments to Morey’s decision to end trade negotiations.

Both the Sixers and Harden could escape penalties if they are found to have communicated with league officials and resolved the matter amicably. Philadelphia had informed Harden that no viable trade to his preferred destination, the LA Clippers, had been reached, prompting him to commit to the team’s training camp.

James Harden Maybe On His Way To China

While his recent remarks have made waves, James Harden seems to have had fun during his time in China, raising the possibility of an unexpected turn in his career trajectory.

The 33-year-old player has expressed intrigue about the prospect of playing in China in the future. Harden’s connection with his fans across the Pacific Ocean appears to be strong, with him acknowledging the overwhelming support he receives whenever he’s in the country.

Harden’s affinity for China doesn’t stop at mere admiration. His wine brand, J-Harden Wine, garnered unprecedented attention this week when 10,000 bottles were sold within a mere 10 seconds during a live stream event.

While Harden’s current contract situation with the 76ers is marked by uncertainty, his actions are fueling speculation about his potential next move. Despite opting into the final year of his contract with Philadelphia, he has simultaneously expressed his desire for a trade.

Reports indicate that trade conversations involving the 10-time All-Star have been halted by the team. Intriguingly, Harden’s absence from the upcoming training camp suggests he might be considering a shift toward overseas play.

Although a direct move to China might not be immediately feasible due to contractual constraints, the Chinese Basketball Association’s rules stipulate that withholding playing services for over 30 days after the last season’s start would breach his contract.

Harden’s openness to the idea of playing a season in the Chinese Basketball Association before retiring from the sport implies that China might not merely be a vacation destination, but a potential professional endeavor.
