  • The James Harden-Philadelphia saga has a new update
  • The Sixers want an elite player in exchange for Harden
  • The guard had expressed a desire to play for the LA Clippers

The Philadelphia 76ers revealed their asking price for James Harden, and it aligns with their goals of winning a title immediately while also securing their future.

Per Keith Pompey of The Philadelphia Inquirer: “The Sixers want draft picks and an elite player in a trade package.”

Now that’s pretty steep for trade and understandable as to why the LA Clippers talks for Harden did not yield a fruitful result.

This comes on the back of an earlier report that highlighted what the Sixers were looking for:

“They view their path to a Harden trade to accomplish one of two things — they want to get back a package that allows them to stay in the same tier of contention, sources say, or to make a trade that returns enough assets back to flip for another high-level player.”

The situation between James Harden and the Sixers is in dire straits, especially after the former MVP took shots at team president Daryl Morey calling him a ‘liar’ during his press tour in China.

Coming back to the trade package, it’s hard to see who will eventually land Harden, who has expressed his desire to play for the Clippers.

Just How Steep Is The Ask For James Harden?

In one word: very. While Harden surely is the player who can elevate any team he plays for into a bonafide title contender, he comes at a huge price — one that teams might not be ready to part their assets for.

To make matters worse, the options for Harden outside of the Clippers are very limited. The Sixers need another player who can richly complement Joel Embiid and call plays astutely as Harden and that would mean teams blowing up their roster either in terms of star power or depth to get Harden in return.

Then there’s the question of Harden’s staying time as a move now will see him play for a new team after stints with two franchises between 2021 and 2023. So, for now, it’s about potential teams looking to play their cards right if they want to add Harden to their ranks.

Expect this storyline to play out with a few more plot twists.
