  • Dwyane Wade is set to become the first “homegrown” Heat player in the Hall of Fame
  • Wade says his connection to the Heat is “special”
  • Wade reflects on his career before Hall of Fame ceremony

NBA legend Dwyane Wade is on the cusp of basketball immortality. In response to 16 excellent years in the NBA, he’s being inducted into the Hall of Fame, and the ceremony is set to take place this weekend.

Wade is obviously not the first Heat player to join the Hall of Fame, but he is the first one to make it who was drafted by the Heat. And for those who know Wade and his NBA story, being the first homegrown Hall of Famer in Heat franchise history is a worthy and fitting title for him to hold.

“It means something to me that I’m the first one in this rich history of the Miami Heat,” said Wade to the press on Friday. “I’m always about setting the bar, setting the standard. I like being the first to do stuff. Of all the great players, all the great players that played there. I’m homegrown in that sense. It’s special.”

Wade is the very definition of a living legend. In the NBA, he was widely known for being one of the best and most exciting players in the game. As a 13x All-Star, 8x All-NBA player, and 3x champion, Wade proved himself as a winner and natural leader. And when it came time to take a step back and relinquish his role as the top dog, he was happy to do it for the sake of the team.

DWade Is The Greatest Heat Player Ever

When considering his total body of work, it’s hard to deny Wade as Miami’s top basketball star. While LeBron may have been better and more talented, Wade meant something special to the franchise and his impact cannot be understated.

“As a Heat player, Dwyane is the greatest player who ever put on a uniform for us,” said Heat President Pat Riley.

It remains to be seen what Wade will accomplish as a governor/executive in the league, but his legacy as a player is eternal and his place in the Hall of Fame will forever cement his career with the All-Time greats.
