As a 19x All-Star, 4x MVP, and 4x NBA champion, LeBron James needs no further validation for his NBA career. Like it or not, he’s one of the greatest to ever do it, and he’ll go down in history as an icon who changed the game. For most players, that kind of career is enough to warrant a statue, and LeBron will surely get on in Cleveland and/or Miami.
But when it comes to his status as a Laker, things are much more complicated for LeBron. And while some argue that LeBron has only been a Laker for a small chunk of his career, others (like Kendrick Perkins) are sure that he’s deserving of a statue right in the heart of downtown Los Angeles.

The Lakers have struggled in the James era, at times, but nobody can take away what LeBron has been able to do in his stay with the Purple and Gold. In 2020, he led the franchise to their 17th title amid a COVID-stricken world and, this past season he did something even greater by becoming the NBA’s all-time leading scorer.
At 38 years old, James confirmed that he’ll be back in uniform for his 21st season, and fans have expectations that he’ll be competing for a title.
Is LeBron The Greatest Laker Ever?
While LeBron might have the all-time debate locked down, his place among the Lakers legends is still up for debate. On one hand, he’s accomplished more in a few seasons than some have done in a decade, but guys like Kobe and Kareem, who dedicated 10+ years to the franchise, will always mean more to the city and the fans.
This season, however, LeBron could change the narrative if he’s able to lead LA to another championship. With two rings under his belt, nobody could deny his place in Lakers history, and even his greatest haters would have to recognize him alongside franchise legends like Magic Johnson, Kobe Bryant, and Jerry West.
As his 39th birthday approaches, time is running out for LeBron to build up his case as the greatest Laker ever, but there is no question that he’s got to at least be in the conversation, given what he’s been able to do with this team over the past few years.
