- Dwight Howard says being in a fight in the NBA comes with a hefty financial loss
- The former NBA center explained a player could lose up to $2 million for throwing a single punch
- Fans mistake it for players being scared to fight
Dwight Howard was a force to be reckoned with during the prime of his career. At 6’10” and 265 pounds, Howard dominated the paint. Despite having that structure, Dwight rarely got into fights with other players.
Howard wasn’t scared of the players, as he explained during an appearance on the ‘My Expert Opinion Show.’ He simply refrained from engaging to avoid losing thousands and, at times, millions of dollars.
“I wasn’t scared, but why would I engage in this, and then I’m losing hella money for fighting in the game,” Howard said. “People be like, ‘Man, why don’t they fight out?’ You are talking about hundreds and thousands of dollars just from the fight.”
He added: “One punch could be $200,000, and then if you are suspended now, each game is going to add up to more money. So, now you’re talking about maybe you lose a million dollars to $2 million just because you threw a punch. Is it really worth it?”

NBA players make millions of dollars throughout their careers but losing even a fraction of it due to a fight is incredibly stupid. Howard earned an estimated $245 million during his 18-year-long career in the NBA.
He lost about $1.3 million in fines and suspensions. Considering Dwight’s career earnings, it’s a meager number. But had he engaged in more fights throughout his time in the NBA, the number could be very high.
For example, Draymond Green has earned $155 million through salary in his career and has lost $1.45 million to fines and suspensions. Green is someone who is very aggressive on the court, and it hasn’t done any favors to the four-time NBA champion.
Dwight Howard Wants To Re-Sign With The Lakers
Dwight Howard played one season for the Taoyuan Leopards following his previous stint with the Los Angeles Lakers in the 2021-22 NBA season.
Howard may have enjoyed his time in Taiwan, but the veteran NBA center is eyeing a return to the Lakers for the upcoming season.
The 37-year-old averaged 6.2 points, 5.9 rebounds, and 0.6 assists per game in the 2021-22 season for the Lakers. As of now, the Lakers haven’t shown any interest in signing Howard, but it may change as the new season progresses.
