Gilbert Arenas had the best performances of his career while playing for the Washington Wizards. Apart from epic games, Arenas also has a box full of stories during his time with the franchise.

Recently, his former teammate Jerry Stackhouse appeared on the ‘No Chill’ podcast and shared a story about the time when Gilbert Arenas had to be bailed out of jail.

“I had to come and get him from the police station that one night from him driving around in the car with no tags,” Stackhouse said. “He had one of those with the one wheel. He came to D.C. with a T-Rex [motorbike] and didn’t put tags on it and tried riding around and he’s like, okay.

“They took his a** to jail one night, and then I had to go talk to the police like, ‘Man, I’m gonna get it, I promise you. I’m gonna get him some tags tomorrow.'”

Jerry Stackhouse and Gilbert Arenas played together for only one season with the Wizards. Stackhouse averaged 13.9 points, 3.6 rebounds, and 4.0 assists over 26 games in the 2003-04 season. While 22-year-old Arenas had 19.6 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 5.0 assists in 55 games for the team.

Stackhouse was sidelined after a right knee injury in the 2003-04 season and couldn’t watch Arenas hit his prime in the following season.

Jerry Stackhouse Admired Gilbert Arenas’ Game

Despite being teammates only for one season, Jerry Stackhouse fell in love with Gilbert Arenas’ work ethic.

Stackhouse praised Arenas, “Watching him shoot the basketball, man, it was like special to watch. I mean handling the ball, the drills he done.”

He added: “I remember he done working them and doing those between the ball drills and getting to his stuff, so it wasn’t no surprise to me that he had the success that he did.”

The two stars shared a great bond. It was evident from the time Jerry Stackhouse destroyed Kwame Brown in front of Gilbert Arenas and the rest of the locker room.

Jerry Stackhouse was traded to the Dallas Mavericks in 2004 for Antawn Jamison, while Gilbert Arenas blossomed into a superstar.

Arenas averaged 25.5 points, 4.7 rebounds, and 5.1 assists per game in the 2004-05 season. Arenas also earned the first of his three NBA All-Star Selections as well.
