- Mark Cuban has no desire to pair up Kyrie Irving and LeBron James on the Mavericks
- The 65-year-old owner is confident in Luka Doncic as the cornerstone player of the franchise
- There were rumors about Irving trying to recruit James to the Mavericks
LeBron James will enter Year 21 of his NBA career and don the Los Angeles Lakers jersey for the sixth season. The rumor mill suggested that the 38-year-old wasn’t keen on returning to the Lakers.
Many reports suggested that Kyrie Irving tried to recruit LeBron James to the Dallas Mavericks. However, team owner Mark Cuban recently cleared the air about the King’s potential move to the Mavericks. Cuban shared his thoughts on Bobbi Althoff’s ‘The Really Good Podcast.’
Bobbi Althoff: “Is he [LeBron James] on the Mavericks?”
Mark Cuban: “No, he’s not.”
Bobbi Althoff: “Are you trying to get him?”
Mark Cuban: “No, we have this guy named Luka Doncic.”

Having LeBron James on the roster is the dream of every owner in the NBA. But the risk of upsetting a 24-year-old superstar in Luka Doncic is simply too big of a payment to get LeBron James during the twilight years of his career.
Doncic has spent five seasons with the Mavericks averaging 27.6 points, 8.6 rebounds, and 8.0 assists per game while shooting 46.6% from the field and 33.8% from downtown.
Luka also led the Mavericks to the Western Conference Finals in 2022. Although the Mavericks lost against the Golden State Warriors in five games, Doncic is still scratching the surface of his true potential.
Kyrie Irving Knows The Dallas Mavericks Are Luka Doncic’s Team
The Dallas Mavericks traded for Kyrie Irving last season to get additional help for Luka Doncic. Unfortunately, Year 1 of the experiment failed miserably. The Mavericks finished the 2022-23 season as the 11th seed in the Western Conference with a 38-44 record.
Moreover, the Mavs had a terrible 5-11 record when the two superstars played together last season. Despite that, Cuban believes that Irving is completely aware that the Mavericks are Doncic’s team.
Irving re-signed on a three-year $126 million deal knowing this. Can the Mavericks achieve a different result this season? Only time will tell.
