LaMarcus Aldridge is one of the most underrated players of his generation. A multiple-time All-Star, Aldridge was a unique player, a versatile big man who could shoot well from three. Aldridge became a solid player in the league for several years. But Sports Illustrated bizarrely called him the future by the time he was in his prime.

As part of their NBA Preview for the 2015-16 season, Sports Illustrated had some of the most decorated veterans in the NBA pose with their young teammates, dubbing them the next generation. These pictures included Dwyane Wade with Justice Winslow, Kobe Bryant with D’Angelo Russell, Kevin Garnett with Karl-Anthony Towns, and Tim Duncan with LaMarcus Aldridge.

Winslow, D-Lo, and Kat were all relatively new to the league at the time, so their being made part of the next generation made sense. But LaMarcus Aldridge had been in the NBA for quite a few years and was 30 years old when this photoshoot took place. And he had been a multiple-time All-Star at the time.

LaMarcus Aldridge Was Already A Star Before This Photoshoot

LaMarcus Aldridge had been part of multiple All-Star teams by the time this photoshoot took place. He and Damian Lillard had also had a solid playoff run together in Portland before he would decide to leave and sign for the San Antonio Spurs.

During his career, Aldridge would be an All-Star 7 times, averaging 19.1 points, 8.1 rebounds, and 1.1 blocks per game. Aldridge was, without a doubt, one of the most underrated players of his generation, and a solid choice to play in San Antonio along with Tim Duncan.

In San Antonio, Aldridge got the chance to play alongside Tim Duncan, who was playing his final season when Aldridge arrived. The two got to bond, with Aldridge being groomed to take Duncan’s place in the team the following year.
