Role players in the NBA can have the privilege of playing with some of the greatest players of their generation. If they end up switching teams often, they usually end up bouncing from contender to contender.
Bruce Brown was a role player with the Nets when they had Kevin Durant, Kyrie Irving, and James Harden. He was also a role-player on the 2023 title-winning Nuggets, blossoming into a bigger role due to his compatibility with Nikola Jokic. Brown compared playing with each of the stars on Theo Pinson’s podcast.
“Playing with Kai, James, and KD, it’s very different than playing with Nikola. I wouldn’t say Kai and them are unselfish, but Nikola is too unselfish. He’ll make the right play every single time. K and Ky can shoot over 2 people and score. Nikola not going to do that. He gon’ pass it and believe that you going to make that sh*t. Every single time.”

Brown is now on the Pacers and provided value within star-led systems in the past. Durant, Irving, and Harden couldn’t win a title despite their supreme talent. Jokic’s Nuggets patiently built a roster that complemented Jokic perfectly, which included Brown’s one-year cameo with the franchise.
The Nuggets Looking To Perfect Their System
The roster in Denver is going to be incredibly interesting heading into next season, as the team will have multiple young players fighting for rotational spots. They have an established big four with Jokic, Jamal Murray, Michael Porter Jr., and Aaron Gordon. Christian Braun has earned a rotational role after his late emergence last season, with other youngsters like Peyton Watson, Zeke Nnaji, and more vying for minutes.
They have a solid veteran cast with Reggie Jackson and DeAndre Jordan on the bench, so the balance is there on the roster. These pieces need to step up and replace Jeff Green and Bruce Brown, as both left the franchise in the summer. Jokic is a master orchestrator, so he will definitely figure out the best ways to highlight his fringe teammates during games.
