Throughout recent years, we have seen a lot of comparisons between Joel Embiid and Nikola Jokic due to both players being part of the MVP race. The tide has definitely shifted in Nikola Jokic’s favor after he won the 2023 championship with the Denver Nuggets.

Recently, center Myles Turner claimed that Joel Embiid is a little “easier to control” on the court defensively than Nikola Jokic. Turner also noted that with Jokic, there are things one can control.

“When Jokic goes out there, it’s like he’s painting himself on that canvas… Embiid you can control a little more, Jokic it’s like there’s stuff that’s out of your control.”

The biggest separator between Nikola Jokic and Joel Embiid offensively right now is the former’s playmaking ability. Jokic is undoubtedly the best playmaker at the center position and has an argument as the best playmaker in the league period.

It will be interesting to see how the debate between Nikola Jokic and Joel Embiid continues to evolve. At this point, the only way Joel Embiid can catch up is by winning a championship, and we’ll see what happens in the future.

Nikola Jokic Thinks That Joel Embiid Deserved The 2023 MVP Award

There is no doubt that many have suggested Nikola Jokic should have won the 2023 MVP award over Joel Embiid, given how the postseason went. However, Jokic has defended Embiid winning the award, pointing out that he played “extremely tough basketball” the entire season.

“I don’t think about MVPs anymore,” Jokic said when asked about winning Western Conference Finals MVP. “People are just mean and saying that Embiid shouldn’t have won it. I think he should (have) won it. I think he was playing, if you watch it, extremely, extremely tough basketball through (the) whole season … He was really amazing in 82 games or how many games he played.”

Joel Embiid is clearly a gifted player, and he had a fantastic season, averaging 33.1 PPG, 10.2 RPG, and 4.2 APG for the Philadelphia 76ers. He won the 2022-23 scoring title and was a stalwart defensively. However, it is clear that he still needs to show that he can be the No. 1 option on a championship team, and we’ll see if he can do so next year.
