A lot of NBA players partake in other sports during the offseason, and it makes sense that they would want to try other athletic competitions in their spare time. A very popular sport among NBA players is golf, as it requires a lot of similar hand-eye coordination to shooting the basketball.
Superstar Stephen Curry is an avid golfer, and we recently saw him hit an incredible hole-in-one shot at the American Century Championship. LeBron James reacted to the shot, expressing awe at what Curry was able to do.

There is no doubt that this shot from Stephen Curry was absolutely insane, and it was the first ever hole-in-one on the 152-yard 7th at the ACC championship. It is clearly an insane achievement for someone for whom golf isn’t even the primary sport. It will definitely be interesting to see how much Stephen Curry can accomplish in the golf world going forward.
J. R. Smith Once Revealed That His Shooting Touch Translates To Golf
There is definitely a reason that a lot of NBA players end up picking up golf as an activity outside of basketball. Once, we saw J. R. Smith explain that his shooting touch actually translates to golf.
βBeing a shooter, my touch [translates to golf]. You have to be able to recreate some of the same shots over and over and over again. And have different shots in your arsenal. For me, I liked to shoot off balance,β he said. βSo I used to lean left, right, forward, back, off one leg. Left leg, right leg. And in golf we got sidehill, downhill, uphill. So many different ways to play the shots. For me it just makes it easier.β
It makes sense for NBA players to pick up a sport that they may already have a head start in due to their shooting ability. Golfing is also about skill and competitiveness, both of which are things that likely appeal to players. Hopefully, we continue to see more NBA players pick up golf in the future, and it will be great for the growth of the sport to see more prominent NBA players like Stephen Curry at future tournaments.
