The 2023 Playoffs ended in heartbreak for the Lakers and LeBron James, as the team lost one of the most competitive sweeps in recent history to the Denver Nuggets. The series sweep prompted James to consider his retirement from the game in a press conference.

With fans speculating on his status, James himself confirmed his intention to come back for next season. Fans were overjoyed at the news, reacting on Twitter.

One fan called him LeDurability for being able to come back for yet another season of the NBA.

Fans joked about LeBron’s post-sweep retirement plans having disappeared.

Fans joked about how Michael Jordan stans will be very upset at the news.

Another fan thinks James will be pushed into thinking about retirement next season anyway after the Nuggets beat them again.

More Jordan comparisons floated out, as LeBron is comfortably outpacing Jordan’s longevity in both years and accomplishments.

Very few people actually bought the reports of James contemplating retirement when it actually happened, so it’s no surprise to see him back. He clearly has unfinished business in the league that he wants to accomplish. A title is still at the top of that list this season, as the Lakers have made solid moves to surround him and Anthony Davis with depth.

From next season, LeBron’s priority is going to be taking care of Bronny in the league and possibly playing against him. LeBron cannot control where Bronny gets drafted.
