NBA fans witnessed Victor Wembanyama in action while wearing the San Antonio Spurs jersey for the first time in the Summer League.

Wembanyama impressed fans in his second game after a lackluster debut. But in just two games, fans have noticed Wembanyama sets bad ball screens, which could lead to a serious injury during his career.

“This is the kind of play that freaks me out about Wembanyama. He’s going to be setting hundreds of ball screens this year, and he’s got to keep his feet under his knees better.”

NBA fans were seriously concerned after seeing the weak ball screen set by Wembanyama. His legs were in an awkward position, and fans believe he can get his leg broken if he doesn’t improve this aspect of his game.

A fan believes Wembanyama just needs to get adjusted to the league.

A lot of things he does look very awkward, but i chalked it up to the adjustment of leagues.

A fan shared his concern about Wembanyama’s knees.

I didn't know knees bend that way…

Another fan offered a detailed answer to the video.

When setting a screen, the screener must allow the defender sufficient time and space to react. He just can't position themselves directly behind the defender.

A fan blamed it on the guard.

Bad timing by the guard though. With better teammates who practice more this should be ok

A fan thinks Wembanyama’s rash behavior when attacking the rim is more concerning.

He knees were bent like 60+ degrees here. I get the alarm, but that’s not the stuff that will get him.

His brash rough and tumble, leaning tower of Pisa, routine around the rim is more troublesome imho.

Yes, Wembanyama needs to set better screens while bulking up so he doesn’t get blown out by defenders due to his lanky frame. But at the same time, the guard in the video could have waited for a couple of seconds for Wembanyama to set his feet during the screen.

Fortunately, Victor Wembanyama will be coached by the legendary Gregg Popovich, and we’re sure he’ll get better at this aspect of the game.

Victor Wembanyama Wants Gregg Popovich To Be Honest With Him

Victor Wembanyama needs to be treated delicately by the Spurs coaching staff. He has the potential to become the next big thing in the NBA.

The process will require Wembanyama to be on the same page as coach Popovich. He wants Popovich to always be honest with him during their time together, which is a great sign.

“Honest relationship,” Wembanyama said. “I’ve had coaches who didn’t always tell me the truth and I hated that. I’m confident that when I get the chance to get coached by Coach Popovich, he doesn’t lie to his players. He tells the truth. Sometimes it’s harsh, it’s hard, but this is what I want.”

Coach Popovich recently signed a new deal worth $80 million over the next five years. It means that he will be there to foresee at least the first few years of Wembanyama’s career in the league.
