The Memphis Grizzlies did a solid job bringing in veteran experience before and during free agency. Following a tumultuous 2022-23 NBA season, the Grizzlies are keen to turn things around and show a different face to the league.
Derrick Rose’s arrival will be key if they want Ja Morant to get it together and stay out of trouble next season. The talented point guard will be suspended for the first 25 games of the upcoming season, but according to former NBA player Isaiah Thomas, once he returns, with the help of Rose, Morant will reach new levels.
“Watch what type of season Ja has next year with D Rose connected to his hip all year long. Once he gets off suspension he will have his best season yet. That D Rose presence going to have him on some MVP sh*t… Watch!”

Morant is still considered one of the future faces of the NBA, but if he doesn’t clean up his image, his career will be nothing like people expect it to be. The player was involved in two gun incidents that first caused him an eight-game suspension, and next season will be 25.
This summer can be crucial for Morant. If he gets to the right place, keeps working on his game, and pushes himself to new levels, he can certainly become an MVP candidate, as he did for a chunk of the 2021-22 NBA season.
Rose is a former MVP himself, and he could bring a lot to the table to help Morant become an even better player. The former No. 2 overall pick averaged 26.2 points, 8.1 assists, and 5.9 rebounds in 61 games last season.
Ja Morant Vows To Prove Thomas Right
Morant had a big reaction to Thomas’ words, promising that he’s going to be on something next year.
“You too loud OG. They gon feel me fasho ♂️☮️,” Morant quote-tweeted Thomas’ remarks.

Morant has been compared to Rose ever since he made it to the NBA, and now that they’ll share touches, things are about to get more interesting for both players. Hopefully, D-Rose can unlock Morant’s real potential and help him reach MVP territory.
The Grizzlies also added Marcus Smart this offseason, meaning they’ll have plenty of experience to direct the young guys on the team. If they stay out of controversy and keep improving, this team can make a lot of noise in the West.
