Point guard Derrick Rose may no longer be the MVP that he once was with the Chicago Bulls, but it is fair to say that he is still a solid veteran who can drive to the rim while also being a leader in the locker room.

This summer, Derrick Rose became a free agent after the New York Knicks declined his $15.6 million player option. It seems as though he has found a new destination though, as it was recently reported that Derrick Rose intends to sign a multi-year contract with the Memphis Grizzlies.

“Free agent Derrick Rose intends to sign a multi-year agreement with the Memphis Grizzlies, per SNY sources.”

After the Memphis Grizzlies traded away Tyus Jones, it makes sense that they wanted a backup point guard. Rose will also bring much-needed veteran leadership to the team’s locker room as well: he was viewed as one of the more influential veteran voices in the Knicks locker room last season.

During this past regular season, Derrick Rose has struggled, only averaging 5.6 PPG, 1.5 RPG, and 1.7 APG for the Knicks. However, in the two seasons before that, he put up 13.8 PPG, 2.7 RPG, and 4.1 APG while shooting 39.4% from the 3PT range, and if he can get back to that level of play with the Grizzlies, Rose could end up as one of the steals of this year’s free agency.
